Seattle medical marijuana dispensary laws
Many Seattle dispensaries are licensed to serve both medical marijuana patients and adult-use customers. Washington’s Department of Health oversees the state’s Medical Marijuana Program, which allows qualifying patients to obtain a medical marijuana authorization and choose to join the state’s medical cannabis registry.
Patients who enroll in the registry to receive a medical cannabis card receive several benefits, including:
- The ability to purchase untaxed medical cannabis products
- Higher possession limits than standard adult-use shoppers
- Permission to grow a limited number of plants at home, as allowed under state law
- Access to dedicated medical consultants and medical-grade products in participating stores
Medical cannabis authorizations and cards must be issued by a Washington-licensed healthcare provider, and only Washington residents can join the state’s medical cannabis registry. The state does not recognize out-of-state medical marijuana cards, even if the visitor is a registered patient elsewhere.
