“I do like how flowers that cost $10 per gram for medical patients cost $14 for recreational customers. The cost should be the same $10 + 25% recreational tax for a total of $12.50 per gram. Why is there an extra 15% house-tax being charged?”
Hi PickyPuffer! We appreciate the question and would like to explain how we determined our price structure. (Pre State Tax ) As a developing company in a new market for recreational consumers, we calculated out or operation costs and established a price point that was reflective of and competing with the existing "black market" and OHA medical marijuana program. When the Oregon State Tax of 25% was imposed we determined a price structure that reflected a 5 level tier of quality from our supply chain which also "INCLUDED" the State Tax, then adjusted to a market competitive retail sale price. Once the Oregon State tax kicked in we re-adjusted our prices to "include" tax because us Oregonians are not completely familiar with paying a sales tax and we didn't want our customers to have any surprises when they walked out the door. After we had determined what our price structure was going to look like there was a significant amount of dialog about the impact the emerging REC market was having on the medical community. This is something that is important to the owners here at Terpene Station as well as all the employees here. The Medical Marijuana Program did help us all achieve legalization and we believe medical consumers should have as affordable access to medicine as possible. We have also existed for close to this past year with marijuana flower grown and provided by the OMMP community. The price we offer to medical patients for all of the beautiful high quality cannabis flower is discounted from our profit margin. As State tax reductions come into effect during year 2 of Oregon Recreational Marijuana Legalization you will likely see price reductions. The is also a continuous flux of product and flower rates often shift throughout the year as well as with the quality of flower provided by select, highly talented stewards of their trade. We wish to be a healthy company and a positive business in our community that provides a reliable quality product. We hope this helps you better understand how we determined our price structure. We have thought long and hard over this and we want to be as transparent as possible with our customers.
