The Best Things to Do in San Francisco for 4/20

The days leading up to 4/20 this year may be some of the most exciting, as California prepares to celebrate the biggest cannabis holiday for the first time since Proposition 64 passed.

The Bay area has nearly an event every day leading up to the big day with a little something for everyone.

April 9-23: Humboldt Green Week

Cannifest marks the start of Humboldt Green Week, a weeklong celebration of Humboldt’s best music, art, local businesses, and garden culture. Humboldt Green combines the magic of 4/20 with the reverence of Earth Day, and will feature every activity from cannabis-infused yoga to glass-blowing and poetry nights. Starting April 9th and running through April 23rd, each day will have a plethora of cannabis activities to choose from.

April 15-16: Cannifest, Humboldt’s Manifest Cannabis Festival and Trade Gathering

The week kicks off with Cannifest – Humboldt’s Manifest Cannabis Festival and Trade Gathering, held at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds, from April 15th at 11 a.m. through April 16th at 11 p.m. The festival will feature vendors and their products, seven stages for live music, educational panels from some of the most prestigious leaders in the cannabis industry, and the 2nd Annual Humboldt Cannabis Job Fair on Sunday. The Humboldt Grow Games will award the best cannabis cultivators, and in Area 215, community members can enter and judge the Cannifest Community Choice Bowl.

April 19-24: Psychedelic Science 2017

If you’re hoping for a slightly more intellectual and psychedelic celebration, be sure to check out Psychedelic Science 2017 at the Oakland Marriott City Center between April 19th and April 24th. Presented by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), the conference will bring the international science community together to discuss new research into the benefits and risks of psychedelic substances, including medical cannabis.

April 20: 420 in the Park

On the big day, any San Francisco cannabis enthusiast will tell you the best place in the city to be is the famed Golden Gate Park. Thousands arrive from all over to celebrate 4/20 at the Gigantic Gathering at Hippie Hill. For the first time ever, this event will be city sanctioned, complete with permits, fences and gates paid for by local Haight Street merchants, and this year’s festivities will be sponsored by Green Door SF. It’s even an eco-friendly event! The 420 Clean-Up Awareness Group ensures that no trash is left behind after the revelers have cleared out.

April 20: Leafly Comedy Tour Presents Nikki Glaser

After you’ve celebrated during the daylight hours, don’t forget that Leafly’s Comedy Tour is back in action this 4/20! Nikki Glaser will be returning as a headliner at the Fillmore Heritage Center in San Francisco, along with Ryan Davis and Byron Bauers. Tickets will run you just $4.20 and all proceeds will go to Rise Up, supporting the Minority Cannabis Business Association. The show starts at 8 p.m., but if you’re a night owl, don’t worry! There’s a late show at 10:30 p.m. as well.
