Snoop Dogg and MTV Team Up for Cannabis-Themed Sitcom

Published on August 2, 2016 · Last updated July 28, 2020

Cannabis icon Snoop Dogg will have more than an executive producer credit on MTV’s new 420-friendly comedy, Mary + Jane. The 44-year-old rapper will also, according to show executives, make a cameo when you least expect him.

“You don’t know when he’s going to appear,” Deborah Kaplan, one of the show’s executive producers, said at a press conference Sunday. “You have to watch all the way to the end to see him.”

The show follows two twentysomething besties, Paige (Jessica Rothe) and Jordan (Scout Durwood) as they embark on a journey toward becoming “ganja-preneurs,” operating an all-female marijuana delivery service in sunny Los Angeles.

MTVs synopsis

“Paige and Jordan may be weed dealers, but in their eyes they are entrepreneurs. Their dope delivery app is quickly gaining popularity with foodies, celebrities and — the most particular and crucial consumer — hipsters. This half-hour comedy takes an entertaining look at two LA girls who are desperate to succeed, find a little romance, and keep their clients happy and high — all with the least amount of effort possible.”

Aside from producing and starring in one of the network’s most anticipated series this season, Snoop also wrote and performed the sitcom’s funky theme song.

Mary + Jane will premiere on MTV on Sept. 5 at 10 p.m. / 9 p.m. Central. Look out for plenty of celebrity guest appearances, including Seth Green, Leonard Roberts, Andy Daly, and Missi Pyle, to name a few.

“We’re hoping that going forward, people who are weed-friendly and comedy-friendly will see the show, get excited about it, and just want to come out and play,” Kaplan said.
