Watch This: Spike Jonze Directs MedMen’s First Cannabis Commercial Starring Jesse Williams

Need an easily digestible look at the history of cannabis in America? Check out “The New Normal,” a short that was produced by MedMen, directed by Spike Jonze, and stars Jesse Williams.

It’s the first time in a while that a powerhouse cannabis company has outwardly and explicitly acknowledged the realities of the cannabis industry—where prohibition came from, how it has affected certain communities, where it is now, and where legalization should be headed.

While the commercial provides an abundance of feel-good vibes about the future, it’s important to understand that we still have a long way to go before the normalization of adult-use cannabis is achieved. The war on drugs is not over, and until the problems of prohibition are corrected, this industry cannot truthfully say that it is.

But the future looks bright. Very bright.

      Love the ad 💖. Open Minds, it’s ok to be a purist. I feel your pain, as I struggle with being a purist, too. However, it’s a good ad. Mankind has been operating on a very low frequency for centuries and it’s negative effect on the collective consciousness is profound. Try not to “add” to it with your judgement of them. Celebrate life. Eventually, and I do mean eventually – the tide will turn and mankind will not worship (with entrainment) the love of those things (like money) above all else (including one’s self). It IS up to us to be more meditative than judgmental – that WILL quicken the tide….. Peace ☮️

    The bottom line is: get the very best products possible for a decent price. This should be every distributor/dispensary’s goal. I want everyone I partake with to give me the surprised nod of excellence like Harvey Kietel gave Quinton Tarantino in Pulp Fiction after taking that first sip of special blend coffee. That first toke should get the same reaction, that’s its a special and unexpected treat. Is that too much to ask for in this new age of legal cannabis sales around the country?

    This was excellent. Cannabis/Hemp was a cash crop for everyone in this country up until the late 30’s/early 40’s when the powers that be realized that it would encroach on their monopolies of fuel (gas), paper, cotton, pharmaceuticals. That is when the campaign to demonize this extraordinary, God given plant was initiated; all instigated by powerful and wealthy men and organizations (Rothchild, Rockefeller, Hearst, etc) to control every aspect of our lives. These are murderous people and organizations.

    In my mind, Cannabis should be completely legalized with no restrictions whatever, except for abuse of using it to get high and driving, as would be on the order of Drinking and driving. Other than that, everyone and anyone should have the right to grow it, sell it and use it….period!
