Watch This: Remember When Carlos Santana Asked Obama to End the War on Drugs?Nicolle CallierJuly 20, 2016
Today legendary guitarist and world-renowned musician Carlos Santana turns 69 years old. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Santana #20 on its list of The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. In Santana’s prolific music career spanning nearly five decades, he’s sold over 100 million records worldwide, released over 20 studio albums, and became a Rock and Roll Hall of fame inductee.
The 10-time Grammy award winner is also adamant about increasing social activism around issues related to education and the War on Drugs. During an interview with CNN in 2009, Carlos Santana was asked his thoughts on the longstanding battle. He responded:
“There are three things that I would say to Barack Obama… Bring the brothers home and sisters home [from war] now. Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and education. And you will see a transformation in America.”
We couldn’t agree more. Happy birthday, Mr. Santana! We hope your day is as “Smooth” as the hook in “Oye Como Va.”
