Confirmations: Dave is correct; two of the founding members of Blue Oyster Cult, Sandy Pearlman and Richard Meltzer, were professional rock critics. They started the band in 1967, playing dances at Stony Brook College on Long Island. The band’s original name was Soft White Underbelly.
