Product Review: Evoxe Labs Disposable Vape Pens

Published on December 12, 2016 · Last updated July 28, 2020

Welcome to Leafly’s Product Reviews, where we take a closer look at a cannabis gadget, accessory, or consumable, and give it a test spin. Today we’re trying out Evoxe Labs‘ updated disposable vape pens.

Evoxe Labs just released the next generation of their disposable vape pens with brand new hardware filled with their signature CO2 extracted cannabis oil and essential oils. Their concept is to coordinate the effects of cannabinoids with non-cannabis derived terpenes from essential oils. I wanted to test out the upgrades so here’s a summary of my experience.

Changes Made to the Products

The new hardware includes a turbine-styled mouthpiece that pulls significantly better than the previous generation. Sometimes with the old hardware I’d feel like I was sucking a grape through a drinking straw, and the new mouthpiece alleviates that issue entirely.

Clogging and leaking have also been significantly reduced thanks to a new oil filtration system. I had some issues with leaking in the previous generation if the pen was left on its side for too long.

Lastly, Evoxe offers a money-back guarantee that the battery will outlast the oil supply, a huge perk for a disposable vape.

Pros and Cons of the Evoxe Labs Disposable Vape Pens

What I like about all of the Evoxe pens:

  • At roughly the size of a cigarette, the pens are light and easy to carry. You can keep the pen in its small rectangular box (my preference) or just slip it right in your pocket.
  • Lab results for each product are available on the product page of Evoxe’s website. The results are from Steep Hill Labs and SC Labs.
  • Evoxe offers a recycling incentive where you get $2 off your next pen when you bring your empty pen to a dispensary that carries them. Yay sustainability!
  • The essential oils used in the Balance, Balance+, Deep, and Engage pens are organically grown and therapeutic-grade.
  • The flavors of the essential oils are subtle and not overpowering.
  • Each unit contains 150 one-second puffs, and the atomizer automatically turns off after three seconds to prevent overheating.

What I don’t like:

  • Other than the CBD-only Balance pen, these products are only available in California.
  • In my personal opinion, the Balance/Balance+ essential oil blend isn’t my favorite flavor profile — it’s a little floral for my tastes. However, I love the effects so the less-than-ideal flavor is a trade off.

Evoxe Labs Vape Pen Product Options

Here’s a breakdown of each of their five products:

Balance:

  • Contains: 125mg CBD
  • Color: White and silver
  • Mood: Restored
  • Essential Oils: Ylang ylang, frankincense, tangerine, geranium
  • Experience: I keep this in my purse because I’m prone to headaches and I drive a lot, and I do not consume any THC if I’m driving. When I start to feel a headache coming on, I take 2-3 puffs of my Balance pen and within a few minutes the headache is completely gone. It’s also great when I’m feeling anxious, but that tends to need more like 5-6 puffs.
  • Bonus: This product is CBD-only so it’s legal to purchase in all 50 states through the Evoxe website.

Balance+:

  • Contains: Harle-Tsu strain; is 275mg CBD to 12mg THC (21:1)
  • Color: White and gold
  • Mood: Restored
  • Essential Oils: Ylang ylang, frankincense, tangerine, geranium
  • Experience: This is actually my go-to product for anxiety. I only need 2-3 puffs because the THC enhances the effects of the CBD (thanks, entourage effect!) and I immediately feel calm and in control. This is also great for medicating at events when I don’t want to feel much of a buzz but am tired of my high heels making my feet ache (the Balance+ is a stiletto wearer’s best friend). It’s also great for people who have low tolerance or are total beginners and want to experience the benefits of CBD and THC without the psychoactive effects.

Deep:

  • Contains: 350mg of THC; indica-leaning
  • Color: Blue
  • Mood: Relaxed
  • Essential Oils: Lavender, chamomile, orange
  • Experience: This pen lives on my nightstand next to my bed. I take about 3-4 puffs before I go to sleep and am actually able to sleep through the night. It doesn’t make me sleepy specifically, just incredibly relaxed. This vape pen option does seem to help me stay asleep through the night, and I wake up in the morning feeling well rested and ready to take on my day. It’s great for cuddling and making out with partners, and I like to have it handy for movie nights or rainy weekends when I just want to unwind.

Engage:

  • Contains: 350mg of THC; sativa-leaning
  • Color: Red
  • Mood: Energized
  • Essential Oils: Peppermint, cinnamon, cypress, lime
  • Experience: I love this pen in the morning, especially since I don’t drink coffee. It’s also great during that post-lunch slump that we’ve all experienced at one point or another. It doesn’t cause any anxiety and definitely helps with focus and creativity. I also love this type for fun and playful sexy times. This one is great for a party atmosphere and medicating socially. Finally, the flavor is delicious!

Stealth:

  • OG Kush strain (350mg of THC)
  • Color: Black
  • Mood: Intense
  • Essential oils: None — the OG Kush terpenes are reintroduced after CO2 extraction so it has an earthy, piney flavor and the typical OG Kush effects of euphoria and relaxation.
  • Experience: If you asked me a year ago, I’d have said that this one was my favorite because it tastes the most like cannabis. I was admittedly skeptical of the essential oils in the other pens at first until I really gave them a fair shot. These days I love each pen for different reasons and in different scenarios, which is how the products were envisioned, but this pen is the one that transcends all situations. I’ve used this pen at a Hollywood nightclub, directly before sexy fun times, after a long stressful day, and for daytime medicating — it works great for all of them.

Overall, I’m a fan of Evoxe Labs disposable vape pens. They’re great for mindful medicating, as the company’s motto, “choose the mood,” suggests. The pens are also reasonably priced, with an MSRP between $40-60. Most dispensaries I’ve visited sell them for $40, and the Balance pen is available through their website for $40.
