CBD products are showing up in medicine cabinets across America, and while this increasingly popular cannabinoid is available in a diverse array of products, there’s one delivery method that’s proven unexpectedly popular with consumers—CBD gummies.

As more and more retailers enter the rapidly expanding market for CBD wellness products, almost everyone getting into the game has a chewy, flavorful gummy offering for potential customers.

So why is it that CBD gummies have struck such a nerve with consumers? And, with the CBD industry expanding at a breakneck pace, what are companies doing to set their gummies apart and develop new products in the space?

What’s Appealing About CBD Gummies

With restrictions around CBD loosening thanks to the passage of the latest Farm Bill, consumers are turning to this cannabinoid to find relief from a variety of ailments such as anxiety and difficulty sleeping. Research around CBD is still in its early stages, due to the historical difficulty of studying cannabis related compounds. The growing market is helping to drive a new generation of studies, though, and some are delivering promising results
about CBD’s potential.

So why are so many CBD consumers turning to gummies to get their daily dose? The team at Every Day Optimal
, a leading online retailer of CBD, reports that their tasty flavor is a significant factor. Gummy vitamins and supplements of all stripes have been gaining traction with consumers lately as an easy and tasty way to take their supplements, and they do a great job of masking the slightly earthy flavor often associated with hemp-derived CBD products
.

Flavor isn’t the only selling point for CBD gummies, though. Every Day Optimal also sees gummies as a great way to ensure consumers get the dose of CBD they’re looking for without having to measure out a tincture or guess at how much of a topical they’re applying. And since gummies are so familiar, they make it easy for consumers to keep their CBD consumption subtle, no matter what their reason.

What Makes a Gummy

In many ways, gummy supplements contain the same ingredients as classic gummy candies—gelatin, sugar, and a little bit of added flavor. In addition to these basic ingredients, companies like Every Day Optimal add a little extra CBD extract to their CBD gummies
. Derived from hemp cannabis plants, this extract is high in cannabidiol, or CBD, and contains less than 0.3% THC, making it legal for products sold online and delivered coast to coast.

Where the hemp plants used to make CBD is sourced from, though, makes a big difference to Every Day Optimal. Their team has worked to build relationships with US farmers and source their CBD only from domestically grown hemp.

Working with trusted farmers close to home allows Every Day Optimal to maintain a thorough understanding of their partner’s practices and products. That understanding—backed up by third-party independent testing of each product in their catalog—helps ensure that customers know exactly what they’re getting from products like Every Day Optimal’s CBD gummies

Evolving Edibles

With the CBD industry—and the market for CBD products—maturing swiftly, companies like Every Day Optimal are looking for every opportunity to stay ahead of the curve. That includes rethinking some of their most popular products, including their CBD gummies. So why are they looking at new ways to approach such a popular product?

“We want to offer customers more choice,” says Alex Gould, co-founder and CEO of Every Day Optimal. “We are currently expanding our gummy line substantially to give our community more options, and in some ways healthier options. We are releasing a sugar free gummy, a vegan gummy, a broad-spectrum gummy, and also updating our classic gummy bear shape to something more grown up.”

In short, Gould and his team think it’s time for CBD edibles to step up and evolve. Part of that, Gould says, is due to regulations around cannabis products that Every Day Optimal expects will eventually apply to CBD gummies as well. As states like California and Washington look to crack down on gummies and other cannabis edibles that could be seen as appealing to children, Every Day Optimal will phase out their traditional gummy bear shapes—which many folks associate with candy—in favor of more abstracted forms.

“Our CBD gummies are extremely popular with consumers, and we don’t expect to change that successful formula,” Gould says. “But we’re doing our best to be proactive when it comes to these products, and we always want to be clear that these products are only ever meant for adult consumption.”

CBD Gummies Tomorrow

While the recipe for Every Day Optimal’s classic CBD gummies won’t change, their team is working on new formulations that will make the product accessible to more people, such as the vegan formulation that’s suitable for CBD consumers with no appetite for animal by-products.

That’s not the only addition Every Day Optimal
plans to make to their CBD gummies. They also expect to introduce a new line of CBD gummies containing broad-spectrum CBD oil, rather than CBD isolate products.

“The broad spectrum line is something that we are very excited about. With these products, customers will be able to enjoy the full array of cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis while still being THC free,” says Gould. “We’re really excited to bring our customers a product that is more reflective of the whole makeup of the cannabis plant. And more than that, we look forward to providing products that suit all of our customers, no matter what they’re looking for.”
