Agent Orange

One of my favorites. Very tasty flowers, too. However, I have found that when this is made into shatter the effect stays the same, but the smell and taste can change. It's like sweet and citrus from the inside of an old tennis shoe sometimes. So be aware.

This is one of two or three salivas that give a real lift, as well as a delightful body buzz following a half hour or hour later. Also, I can take on quite a bit of it and not get anxious or paranoid. This strain reminds me of some of the earliest hippy cannabis. Oh, yes. It is nicely psychedelic at higher doses. Yes, indeed.

Purple AK-47

I bought this as a concentrate (CO2 Cart.) based on the description on Leafly. The product I bought was extremely harsh on the back of the throat. Take tiny hits as the feeling of "expansion" in the lungs causes terrible coughing. That said, the blast-off with this stuff is the most powerful of anything I have experienced in recent years. I am not exaggerating one bit. For me, it was just as the description indicates: I get a body tingle after just a few minutes which intensifies and becomes "floaty." Then after perhaps a half hour, the cerebral energy kicks in, and has the feel of a great old school sativa. And this is on the equivalent of just a couple of hits. In my view, this strain is for experienced users only. The effects come on strong, but they are laggy and staged. It is easy to take on too much. The first time, I did so, and I slept for hours. The prospect of a huge paranoia spike seemed just around the corner, too in that instance--something very rare for me and only happening in the past after I had taken way too much. Moderation in all things, but especially this strain.

Acapulco Gold

I first smoked this strain in 1970. This was a time when Jimi Hendrix was new. Led Zeppelin and Crosby, Stills & Nash were "Thangs." It was time of turmoil and, for me, being a college student, hippie and…so forth. I smoked dope from 1967 (high school in Iowa) until about 1977. Then I quit, mostly, except for a ceremonial toke or two once in a blue moon, until 2015. As an Portland, Oregon resident I resumed buying pot as mostly a novelty in Vancouver, WA prior to it being fully legalized in Oregon. But, recently retired, I rediscovered the joy of cannabis and became familiar with the newest, best and most powerful strains. But Acapulco Gold was the strain I smoked when I learned to play the guitar and do many other things I might not have imagined as an Iowa-grown boy. It is rare, now. At least in Portland. But I do buy it when I can and I very much love it. It is a sativa strain through and through. For some reason I do not get the "paranoia" factor common in so many sativa strains, played a big part in what led me to stop using cannabis in the 70's. I find Acapulco Gold to be the best strain for music listening. As a sativa, it may not promote a lot of long term attention span, so it is great for sitcom, but not so wonderful in my experience for, like, movies. I no longer smoke; instead I vape. I have a couple of cartridges of A/G that I enjoy sharing when socializing. I think A/G and maybe Durban Poison are the best strains for parties.

Five Zero Trees West

I gave this location a scathing review a few months ago, but decided to try them again recently. Except for one policy issue for which the very kind person at the desk explained satisfactorily, I am completely satisfied and will visit this company again.

Serra Downtown

To me, this is the store to bring my friends from out of town who wonder about legal dope in Portland. While it has a "boutiquey" feel, the products are priced reasonably well for what they are. And what are they? Depends on the harvesting cycle but you can often find unusual strains here that have been reviewed on Leafly but are rare in this area. Also, for the strains about which you may know nothing, the bud tenders have enough information so at least you can make a "sort of informed" decision. Disclosure: Blind luck, Kismet, or being an f'ing genius, I discovered my two favorite strains from this very store.

Grape Kush

One of the few strains that carries no anxiety and no feeling of being unconnected/uncoordinated for me. Great for inward looking, a little energy, and for pleasant body feeling. Low doses are enjoyable that way, with higher doses leading to more sleepiness and more inward looking. Great for music or some videos.
