Neighbor Dave's Organics

9/16/2014
I've been coming here for awhile now. They always have an excellent range of top quality products and the service has never been less than excellent. I'm particularly impressed with the quality of their kief. Good kief makes an excellent booster and their's is the best I've seen at any dispensary. Many dispensaries don't stock kief at all, many others only have a mystery house blend. Those that have strain specific kief, it is often poor quality, screened through a high micron screen, complete with lots of plant material. The kief at Neighbor Dave's is strain specific in popular strains. It is similar in quality to the kief I get myself when I pass ground bud over a 90micron screen. There's no obvious plant material at all. It burns and vapes very smoothly. I would come back for the kief alone. I hope they continue to offer a wide selection.

Cannalope Haze

9/7/2014
Cannalope Haze is an odd one. The smell and taste make this one worthy of notice in itself. The effects are kind of loopy and unfocused, no doubt from the haze side. The batch I'm reviewing is decent. The nugs are very small, almost popcorn sized. The color is light green mottled with slightly darker green with red/orange hairs throughout. The smell is very sweet, with floral and fruit undertones. To me it smells more like faded strawberry than melon. Vaping it, produced a medium vapor, with the smell carrying on, for the most part, to the taste. The effects begin after about five minutes and hit with a unfocused, loopy effect. Mostly cerebral, not a lot of body effects, except for a general feeling of relaxation. Didn't make me sleepy or unusually hungry. Effects are similar to Amnesia Haze. Not my favorite, but not unpleasant under the right circumstances. I think this would be good for relaxing in the evening and watching a funny movie. It makes you forget your cares, and everything else too.

Jasmine

9/3/2014
The "Jasmin" I got is actually Jasmine. It is apparently Durban Poison and Super Silver Haze, making it come down on the Sativa side of the spectrum. The buds are shaped like SSH, kind of like an arrowhead. The color is greenish yellow, with orange hairs, very similar to the Durban Poison parent. The smell has elements of both parents. Vaping produced a thick vapor and the effects hit after about ten minutes, with a very focused, upbeat high. Very motivating strain. No anxiousness or paranoia for me. It has some body effects too, with a general relaxed feeling. No jitteriness like some Sativas. I didn't make me sleepy, but I don't think it would prevent me from sleeping either. It took care of most of my nausea without causing intense munchies. I did get a slight headache on comedown but nothing serious. Overall I really like this strain. It's not closely similar to any other strain that I've tried. I think it would be good for mood disorders, as well as nausea and other GI issues. Not the best for pain or muscle problems, but can make me forget pain by distraction. I will definitely get this again when I can.

Cannabliss & Co. - Firestation 23

These people are inconsistent. My first experience here over a year ago, wasn't the best, and that caused me to not return for awhile. After I did return, the next time was fantastic. I've been back a few times since and my experience alternates between acceptable and not so much. This last time, they were very busy. They acknowledged me immediately and asked me to wait. After a few minutes a man began to assist me until I was transferred to a young woman. She didn't know what she was doing. She didn't understand the offerings, she mixed the three strain specific pre-rolls up after asking if I wanted them in a container (she was just going to hand them over the counter). I got a quarter and an eighth of two different strains. She didn't even label them (nothing). After getting home, I don't have any idea what anything is, across five different strains. I HATE that. The only thing labelled properly was some pre-labelled concentrate. This experience, added to my previous experiences with dealing with weed snobs who are sometimes behind the counter, I'm not likely to return for awhile. To be fair, their building is very cool and their offerings are typically top-notch. That isn't enough anymore.

River City Holistic Health

7/8/2014
I've visited most of the active dispensaries in Portland recently after my favorite one in Clackamas County was forced to close. I originally made the 45 minute drive to River City, to check out a very unusual phenotype of Tangie; it's completely purple, almost black and it's a sativa. Once there, I saw the Tangie and a small array of the most expertly grown flowers I've ever seen. Most of their stuff comes from Jessie James Gardens and those people know how to grow potent medicine. Their prices are a little bit of a shock at first but I find the quality to be worth it. I love the strawberry banana OG (incredibly tasty), and their Shaskaberry and Purple Urckle is the best I've ever seen anywhere. I've never been disappointed in the least by anything I've gotten there.

Puddletown Organics

I like this place. They are not the largest or most fully stock. What they do have is a good cross section of almost every type of cannabis meds you could want. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy and the staff is professional and knowledgable. I got small amounts of several different strains because they all looked so good. I tried the "Cheesy Dick" strain (UK Cheese x Moby Dick) when I got home, which prompted me to write this review. I got it based upon their recommendation, and it's everything they said it was. Looking forward to trying the other strains I got. This place is everything a high quality dispensary should be. I'll be back soon.

Lemonnade Milwaukie

I've been to a few OMMP "Wellness Centers" in the Portland Area over the last several months. Most of them are Wellness Centers in name only; they don't really offer anything but inhale-able and ingest-able cannabis products. Little Amsterdam Wellness Center offers a whole range of services and products that you don't see in many similarly named places. They offer an excellent range of medicinal cannabis products and they obviously take great pride in their selection and quality. In my opinion they have reason to. Add that to the fact that they are the only Wellness Center in Clackamas County still linking growers with patients in their offerings, they are definitely worth checking out.

Green Oasis

7/4/2014
This is my second review of Green Oasis. My first review was just after Clackamas County passed their dispensary moratorium and I was scrambling to find another professional, reliable dispensary. I've visited over a dozen dispensaries since then, one almost all the way to Scappoose (coming from Gladstone), trying to decide which one would be my primary go to. I looked for things like selection, medicinal effects range, quality and donation price, as well as layout, staff knowledge/attitude and ease in getting the medicine you actually need. Portland has some truly exceptional dispensaries and I've left reviews to that effect. Green Oasis has distinguished itself in my mind as just a cut above (pun not initially intended, but it is now). Not only do they excel at the areas for which I was looking, they are always trying new things and fine tuning their operations based on patient feedback and community feedback. The vibe is in no way overwhelming or unsafe. More than any other dispensary I've visited, it really feels like they are part of the community, and that they want to be good community citizens. Everyone on the staff are exceptionally friendly and compassionate for the discomfort their clients are experiencing. They even have Granny, their in-house baker. After a lot of research, Green Oasis has bubbled to the top as the best, and my favorite dispensary in the Portland area. It's just a bonus that it happens to be the closest one to my part of Clackamas County. I highly recommended you come in and check them out for yourself.

Five Zero Trees East

7/4/2014
I've been to Five Zero Trees twice. It's a little difficult to find the first time, since it's back behind other buildings, but once you know where it is, the staff makes the rest easy. The place is bright and roomy, with two fully stocked stations. They've got a decent selection of top quality flowers and a really good selection of concentrates, including the best selection of solvent-less ice wax I've seen, for those who prefer to avoid hydrocarbons in their medicine. They also have CO2 extractions which are also hydrocarbon free. They also offer a good range of medibles. The staff is friendly and very knowledgable about the products they offer. Definitely one of the best dispensaries in Portland.

MTF

7/3/2014
The fact that Leafly lists two "Alaskan" Thunder Fucks makes me a little crazy. Alaskan Thunder Fuck (ATF) is listed as a Sativa and Matanuska Thunder Fuck (MTF) is listed as a hybrid. Matanuska Thunder Fuck is named after the Matanuska-Susitna Valley in Alaska, about 50 miles outside of Anchorage, which is revered for rich volcanic soil and it's intense summer growing season. I lived in the Mat-Su valley in the late 70s, early 80s when this strain was being fine tuned. The strain came out of a blend of a number of different landrace strains that were folded into the most popular strains in the area at the time. Emphases was placed on strains that didn't grow too high (for cramped quarters) and that had a short flowering cycle to optimize for the short summer. The best strain (in my opinion) to come out of this process, became known as Thunder Fuck or just Thunder to people in the valley and Matanuska Thunder Fuck to people in places in Alaska outside the Mat-Su valley. There were a couple of strains that had such similar genetics that they were collectively known as MTF and it was almost impossible to tell the difference. I know there were some MTF seeds and cuttings exported to the Pacific Northwest during that time because I spoke to a WA grower, visiting Alaska and he was growing out an MTF plant at that time. Cannabis was recriminalized in the mid 80s in Alaska and the strain went underground when the DEA stepped up enforcement and true (or even close) MTF is difficult to find now, even in Alaska. True MTF is a hybrid strain that leans slightly on the Indica side. The plants tend to grow short and thick, at least in Alaska and especially with good cropping. The flowers are a blend of dark and medium green with reddish brown hairs, and a structure similar to a Kush but with smaller buds. MTF doesn't normally turn purple hues unless it's finished outside toward the end of the summer in northern climates. The scent is a strong skunky piney smell, with mint undertones that most containers can't contain. The effects are pretty unique in that they start with a very strong Sativa type high, very spacey and euphoric, then migrates after a while into a very relaxed couch lock, Indica phase. There are often giggly and/or aroused phases to the experience as well. Beware of intense munchies with this strain. Sleep is usually easy with MTF but unless you use too much, it doesn't usually force sleep. It is a fantastic pain killer and muscle relaxer. MTF was developed by Alaskans to get through the long winter months but also to take advantage of epic summer days. True MTF is unquestionably my favorite strain of all time. "Alaskan" Thunder Fuck (ATF) is NOT the same thing. I've sampled several examples of the Pacific Northwest ATF as well as a strain called Oregon TF that are all very similar to each other. They are all sativa dominant with classic sativa bud structure. They had none of the Indica effects that I enjoyed so much in MTF. This is also not the Tundra strain that Leafly refers to as an alternative name to MTF. Tundra is yet another type of strain, that in my experience is similar to NL#5 and now appears to be extinct in its original form. Since I've become a medical user, I've only found two examples of MTF that I consider close to being genuine. Pure Oregon is the only place in Portland I've found MTF, that's close enough to satisfy my high standards for this strain. If you are looking for an intense but balanced hybrid this one is worth a try if you can find it.
