Cannabis Retail Guide: Elevate, 118 Ave. NW, EdmontonLiora IpsumJuly 29, 2019
The store is owned by Joshua Vera, who took the leap into cannabis following a decade working in construction. A trip to Amsterdam several years ago opened his eyes to the potential of the industry and prompted Vera to work all summer to save up for the winter when he’d head down to Colorado for research purposes.
His shop draws on best practices from abroad to create a space where he empowers consumers with education. And, it’s working. Elevate has become a destination for consumers looking for personalized attention and a broad selection of products.
Nearly 30 5-star reviews on Leafly can’t be wrong. “Best shop in Edmonton! Knowledgeable, friendly staff and great prices on a wide selection,” writes one customer, while the rest of the reviews on Leafly echo the same sentiment.
This compact cannabis retailer is outfitted with cool grey tones and royal blue accents.
Upon entering, find samples of dried flower in sensory jars to the left while display cases stocked with cannabis products in their original packaging are housed behind glass and are lit from within.
While standing room is somewhat limited, the shop gives off welcoming vibes reinforced by an inviting couch at the front of the room, offering consumers a comfy spot to rest or consult with staff.
Since the store boasts a present proprietor, Elevate retains an intimate feeling that some of the big-box chains can’t compete with.
Along with Vera, find three or four devoted staff members in-store each day. Those looking for fast service can order straight off digital menu boards mounted behind the customer service desk, while those in need of guidance can benefit from one-on-one attention.
Vera tells Leafly that spending 20 to 30 minutes answering questions and educating consumers is not uncommon.
Products & Pricing
Cannabis is the main attraction at Elevate and products are displayed in original packaging lined up behind glass. Expect a varied selection featuring many of the big brands including Edison, UP, LBS, Sundial, and many more.
Customers can browse by bud samples which are labelled with the name of the strain, cultivar (sativa, indica, hybrid), and cannabinoid content. Otherwise, the display cases and digital menu boards offer an overview of the dried flower, prerolls, oils, and capsules in stock.
The selection of accessories is pared down but colourful pipes, grinders, vapes, bubblers, and papers are available for sale.
