Plant Morphology: Strong vertical growth, averaging 23"-27" in 3 gallon pots. Skull Island F2 develops dense, sugary buds on all floral sites (floral initiation starts around week 5). Expect a high calyx-to-leaf ratio with little need for defoliation and extremely sugary green buds.

Terpenes: Spice, chem, diesel, and pine, with a funk that leans dark and savory. Caryophyllene dominant, followed by limonene, humulene, and linalool.

Effect: An uplifting and creative/cerebral effect to start, followed by a powerful body high.

Notes from the Grower(s): Skull Island was the first autoflowering strain that Dirty Bird bred, first harvested a year ago this May, that had the wow factor we were looking for in an auto. It became the first official project on our docket to work forward and lock in. While we are still hard at work on this project, finishing our F3s at the time of this release, we thought it would be fun, and potentially even helpful, to let some of these F2s out into the wild for people to try out.

The very first notes I took on this strain read: “Banana daddy x strawberry gorilla is INCREDIBLE. Huge yields, high density, and insane sharp spicy banana smell across the board. Terps range from licorice to pine to banana.”

F2s are notoriously the most diverse filial generation. The variation in Skull Island F2 is mostly in regards to height and terpene profile. If you’re looking for a strain where every plant is identical, this probably isn’t the best choice. But if you’re looking for surprises, Skull Island F2 is a great choice.

Overall, the Skull Island’s flower shape was quite consistent. Almost all of the plants had large, conical buds that came to a peak at the top with a fat circumference around the middle. We observed a couple of plants (around 15%) that had dome-shaped flowers. Some flowers wanted to stack along the central cola more than others. The taller plants—which were in the minority, by far—didn’t stack as well as the shorter plants did. All of the plants yielded well and formed chunky colas. Density did vary a bit. While none of the flowers were fluffy, they ranged from rock hard to spongy at harvest. Consistent density is something we are actively selecting for. All of the plants had thick, self-supporting stalks and medium internodal spacing. Some formed very bulbous calyxes that looked like clusters of ripe pomegranate seeds, while others had a much more compact, highly dense structure. Our very favorite plant was one that had very dense flower and a high calyx-to-leaf ratio. Even live on the plant, it appeared to have the kind of flower that crumbles to dust between your fingers when you break it apart. The Skull Island F2 was incredibly greasy, so much so that we had to change our gloves while harvesting them.

Lastly, we have the terpenes! The terpenes were one of the things that really drew us to this cross. They are so complex, and they are consistently pungent from plant-to-plant. While there was a lot of variance in terpenes, they were all a part of the spicy, sour/chem, gas family and they leaned dark and savory. Some individual plant observations included:

SKYWALKER (BLUEBERRY X MAZAR)    This strain is the result of the genetic cross starting with Mazar, an indica-dominant strain that is native to the extreme north of Afghanistan and known to be a great producer. Also in the mix, Blueberry is known in the cannabis world for its strong and intoxicating aroma. In addition, this cultivar is much admired for its colorful hues and immense bag appeal.    Skywalker is a vigorous, bushy cannabis plant that grows to 3 feet indoors and almost 5 feet outdoors. Like the phenotype of its parental strains, it has muscular branches and stems. Make sure to prune non-essential leaves and side branches to allow better airflow and light exposure. If growing outdoors, the ideal climate should be similar to locations around the Mediterranean and California. In these cannabis paradises, each plant can produce up to 17 oz and harvest should be ready by mid October in the northern hemisphere or March in the southern hemisphere. If outdoor conditions are not optimal or consistent, it’s best to cultivate Skywalker indoors. Its potential was noticeable before it even hit flower due to its perfectly proportioned morphology, ease of growth, and overall vigor, strength and health. Once the cohort was flipped into flower, we became only that much more excited about the potential we were seeing unfold. Structurally, these girls are beasts with incredibly thick and sturdy stalks that require no staking despite their monstrous buds. Floral initiation is early and plentiful with great stacking, dense flowers, and a high calyx-to-leaf ratio. Most of all though, we love this strain’s terps. Pine will bite your nostrils as soon as you enter her sphere of existence, and upon closer inspection, her complexity will reveal itself with fruity, sweet notes that are tempered by sharp pine, garlic and bright astringent and gas. While overall the genetics blended incredibly well together, we observed about half of the cohort resembling the Sour Lime Haze (Dirty Bird Genetics) in morphology: short and squat bushes with fat, round colas. The other half was a mix of Moose n Lobstah (Dynasty Genetics) dominant, with long conical buds and equally strong morphology, and hybrids of the two. Every plant we tested was strong and worthy of a space in any grow. We are super excited to get this in the hands of more growers and unleash its potential into the community at large.    Notes from the Breeder(s): The Sour Moose has been an incredible strain to grow. Throughout testing it proved to be a very stable cultivar with no incidences of intersex traits. The Sour Moose had excellent stalk strength on almost all phenotypes tested and exhibited an average length flower maturity of approximately 50-55 days. In addition to stalk strength and overall plant strength, the Sour Moose also exhibited superlative trichome production as well as high floral generation. The flowers on the Sour Moose form very dense buds that stack on one another maximizing yield per square inch of stalk while still retaining adequate air flow pathways between flowers which will be helpful in deterring mold infections. The high trichome accumulation of the Sour Moose allows for a rich and dynamic terpene profile with citrus/lime scents dominating. Pine and fuel undertones also help to increase the complexity and rich texture of the terpene profile of the Sour Moose making it one of my favorite strains to grow, harvest, and ultimately ingest.    From a breeding perspective, the Sour Moose creates many bracts of a large volume per flower which correlates with this strain’s ability to not only create a high quantity of seeds but also to allow space for the development of large, healthy seeds. The viscid stigmas, almost velvet textured in appearance, are long and thick which aid in capturing pollen grains needed for seed creation. The Sour Moose is a workhorse that will provide a high accumulation of flower, trichomes and terpenes with little effort needed in its maintenance and if breeding is your goal, this cultivar has an exceptional ability to create high volumes of large and healthy seed.    Feminized Photoperiod    MAUI MOOSE:    Genetics: Maui Wowie 2.0 x Moose n Lobsta V2    Filial Generation: F1    Flowering Time: 55-60 days    Cannabis Type:  Sativa Hybrid    Yield: Average    Phenotypic Variation: Moderate/high    Notes from the Grower(s): Don’t sleep on this one. Both literally and figuratively. A great daytime smoke, and a tank in the garden, this sativa mashup is one that is wholly worth your time. With incredible terpene profiles ranging from bright pine to rhubarb to cantaloupe, trichome production that rivals some of the best boutique strains out there, and a super sturdy and strong morphology, the Maui Moose has a lot of potential. Its moderate-to-high phenotypic variation was what kept it on our tester menu; however, the keeper phenos you’ll find here are some of the best we’ve ever seen. Primarily, it is the bud formation that differentiates the 3-4 phenotypes we observed:  1. Maui-Moose Hybrid Pheno: This is the one to look out for, and I cannot stress enough the potential we saw in this pheno. They stack on weight early and with vigor and finish with rock hard, huge conical colas that are packed with trichomes and densely stacked calyxes. These girls are tanks both in morphology and bud structure: fat, squat bushes with just the right amount of foliage for great airflow and maximum photosynthesis. Better yet, the quality of the flower is out of this world, making it a commercial dream crop.  2. Maui Pheno: The Maui Wowie 2.0 (Sticky Finger Seeds) dominant pheno looks a lot like the Maui-Moose hybrid, but its buds are a little smaller and aren’t as prone to stacking. They are more golf-ball in appearance, but just as gorgeous and pack on the trichomes and the terpenes equally well.  3. Moose & Lobstah Pheno: Unlike the Maui, the Moose & Lobstah (Dynasty Genetics) grows long cylindrical buds that can either stack exceptionally well, or in the worst case scenarios, can get pinched off and lack density and girth.  4. Pink Pistils Pheno: The Pink Pistil pheno was one of the most exciting to see, and a very rare find in any garden. Throughout its flowering life, this pheno developed bursts of pink pistils that retained their color straight through the end of flowering, eventually taking on a more amber hue right before harvest. This pheno was more Moose-dominant, with sugary, cylindrical buds that stacked really nicely.  Feminized Photoperiod

The Sour Moose had excellent stalk strength on almost all phenotypes tested and exhibited an average length flower maturity of approximately 50-55 days. In addition to stalk strength and overall plant strength, the Sour Moose also exhibited superlative trichome production as well as high floral generation. The flowers on the Sour Moose form very dense buds that stack on one another maximizing yield per square inch of stalk while still retaining adequate air flow pathways between flowers which will be helpful in deterring mold infections. The high trichome accumulation of the Sour Moose allows for a rich and dynamic terpene profile with citrus/lime scents dominating. Pine and fuel undertones also help to increase the complexity and rich texture of the terpene profile of the Sour Moose making it one of my favorite strains to grow, harvest, and ultimately ingest.    From a breeding perspective, the Sour Moose creates many bracts of a large volume per flower which correlates with this strain’s ability to not only create a high quantity of seeds but also to allow space for the development of large, healthy seeds. The viscid stigmas, almost velvet textured in appearance, are long and thick which aid in capturing pollen grains needed for seed creation. The Sour Moose is a workhorse that will provide a high accumulation of flower, trichomes and terpenes with little effort needed in its maintenance and if breeding is your goal, this cultivar has an exceptional ability to create high volumes of large and healthy seed. LIMITED EDITION: 150 packs Plant Morphology The Sour Strudel is a boutique-quality, medium-sized cultivar with medium internal spacing and a high calyx-to-leaf ratio. Excellent trichome development on all plants observed. Most plants exhibit a strong central cola and conical buds that stack really nicely on the shorter, squatter plants. Note: there is one phenotype lurking in gene pool that has exceptional lateral branching, producing several dominant colas without training or topping. Terpenes The terpenes are consistently great with a sweet apple profile being most dominant, followed closely by a raspberry/grape/cheese/umami amalgamation. In the minority, but still present, would be a sharp, gassy profile. Caryophyllene is dominant, followed by combos of humulene, myrcene, linalool, and limonene. Effect An uplifting, energizing, and relaxing daytime high. Notes from the Grower(s): The Sour Strudel Auto is an F1 cross between two of our favorite autoflowering varieties: Fastbud’s Apple Strudel Auto and Humboldt Seed Co's Sour Apple Auto. It feels like these parents were destined to match. From their sweet apple and gas terpene profiles to their sugary, mint green aesthetic, the Sour Strudel’s parents come together incredibly naturally, expressing surprisingly low phenotypic variation for a cultivar of this generation.
You can expect medium height plants with medium internodal spacing, density, and calyx-to-leaf ratio, and great bud development across the entire plant. A long, stacked central cola that stands tall above the canopy is a core characteristic of the strain, with most plants growing more vertically than laterally if left untopped and untrained. Some plants exhibited better stacking than others on the central cola, and we noted that the best stackers were the plants with a slightly shorter, more squat morphology and internodal spacing. These plants were selected to breed our F2 generation. A highly-lateral phenotype did appear in about 10% of the plants we tested. This pheno was so unique that we made the decision to reverse and collect pollen from one of them, and we will be breeding this into a secondary F2 generation. It is very rare to find a cannabis plant that grows an even canopy of 4-6 colas without being trained, so this was something that piqued our curiosity.

Perhaps the most notable feature of the Sour Strudel Auto is its prolific trichome production. These plants are sugary from top-to-bottom and side-to-side, and this is a trait we are targeting as we breed the line forward! Color wise, in a 72 degree room, the Sour Strudel stays a minty pale green, but given some cooler temps, it purples up very nicely. The terpenes are consistently superb with a sweet apple profile being most dominant, followed closely by a raspberry/grape/cheese/umami amalgamation. In the minority, but still present, would be a sharp, gassy profile.

After 18 months of breeding, The Sour Strudel Auto was the very first strain we tested that our entire team agreed was good enough to release as a tester. This was a very small-batch breed, and as such, it will be a very limited drop with only 100 packs available. Our intention with this project has always been to breed it into an IBL (in-bred line). While we continue advancing the genetics generation-to-generation, we are eager to get our community’s feedback on it in its most foundational state.
