Sedgwick Alternative Relief

4/10/2016
First things first. compared to what I had pictured in my head it was a little bit of a shock rolling up on the place for the first time. Mentally picture small town Americana where all the stores in town are located on Main street and you've got Sedgwick. That said, this is the most modern building in town by a longshot. Even without it's large printed sign on the front your nose would easily lead you to the correct place. Once inside on my first visit I was greeted by a short female ex-South Dakotan budtender. She was friendly and assisted me in getting what I came for, two eighths of Northern Lights. The buds were dense but not rock hard. They smelled faintly of lemons, otherwise the bud had no smell. The bud had the typical sparkling frosty THC coated appearance of Northern Lights. Once through the grinder the smell was a little stronger otherwise no smell change. The bud was perfectly dried. It smoked clean leaving a white ash when the bud was burnt. There was no coughing or choking due to this. The taste was typical faint hash/weed taste on inhale and exhale. The high onset was immediate, strong, and long lasting with the duration clocking in at a little over three hours, covering both head and body equally. I got a strong case of the munchies from this bud. My second visit my budtender was a shy, younger guy with dark hair and glasses. He was extremely helpful and clued me in that there's a loyalty program one can sign up for. I gave him my email address and I now get 10% off on return visits and emails about when they're having specials! This time I picked up an eighth of BubbleGum x Purple Kush and Booger. The Booger buds were rock hard, coming in two buds for the eighth. It had a candied sheen of THC and smelled of strawberries and bananas, getting sweeter and sweeter the longer it cured in the jar. It's lineage is Kyle Kushman's Strawberry Cough x Bubba Kush. Had I known the strain makeup and how good that bud was going to be I would have gotten more. In the grinder it was difficult to get the buds to grid they were so dense. In fact I had to take them out, break them up a bit by hand, then put them back in the grinder to get them to break down at all. Once ground the bud looked a little wet meaning if shaken in the grinder directly after grinding it had visible movement after I'd stopped shaking it aka tumbling. Booger has a good, centered stone with quick onset, lasting two hours. Not much for paranoia and I got some munchy pangs in the last hour or so. It smoked sickly sweet on the inhale and exhale and I would happily buy it again. The BubbleGum x Purple Kush was a different story. I'm a huge fan of BubbleGum having smoked it many times before I know firsthand of it's long lasting one-of-a-kind euphoric high. I was looking forward to laughing until my face hurt and the permagrin that I get with it's buzz, and was left wanting. In appearance the buds were loose in structure like a sativa, had a great coating of crystals, and were the sweetest smelling strain they had. In the grinder the sweet smell got stronger and had an undertone of spearmint pop up. The smoke put me in a stranglehold. I literally coughed until I teared up. It burned black (when this happens the weed is either too wet or there is residual fertilizer/chemicals/chlorophyll left over in the bud). It burned through and through so it wasn't too wet. I decided to give it a water cure and see if I could salvage the bud. For a week while I smoked Booger I soaked the BubbleGum x Purple Kush in room temperature water, changing the water daily by pouring it through a 50 micron bubblebag to make sure I wasn't losing any THC. What the water cure accomplishes is removing leftover chlorophyll, fertilizers, and chemicals through the plant's permeable cell walls. After the week of water curing and a day of sitting on my countertop to dry it was ready to smoke. The buds had decreased in size and darkened in color. The smell was still sweet and the water cure removed the spearmint smell from the ground bud. The smoke was thick and sweet on inhale and exhale, and now easy on the lungs and throat. It now burned clean leaving a white ash. The high was quick and very indica in it's effect. It was all heavy body high for me with the duration being around an hour and a half. Munchies were necessary every time I smoked this. Funnily, when I asked my budtender if he'd smoked all the strains he'd replied he had. I then followed up with asking what he thought of the BubbleGum x Purple Kush. He'd literally had gotten out, "I thought...", and the ex South Dakotan budtender I had last time loudly said over the top of him, "It's one of our best selling strains." He stopped speaking when she did this and I left it at that. On my third visit I had a thin gentleman with a goatee, tinted glasses and a grey hat as a budtender. This time I picked up two eighths of S.A.G.E. Orange Bud, one eighth of Carnival, and two eighths of The Jendle #3. When I asked what the strain makeup of S.A.G.E. Orange Bud and The Jendle #3 is he was honest and said he didn't know, which I appreciate immensely. He then went above and beyond and grabbed Lyndle, the master grower, to tell me the makeup of the strains. Lyndle is a super friendly guy and in speaking with him I learned his goal is consistently have new strains on the counter weekly all hitting above 20% THC. He explained that The Jendle #3 is a strain of his own creation consisting of ( Buddha's Sister x ??? I can't remember ??? ) x Black Rose. The legendary Black Rose comes from Heath Robinson and is famous because both males and females from seed are true breeders for purple traits. What that means is Black Rose passes the purple coloring trait on to anything it breeds with, no matter male or female, from seed. This is extremely rare. The name Jendle is a combination of Lyndle and his wife Jen's names. The number three comes from being number three of the three phenotypes that have expressed themselves in the seeds that have been grown out. The smell of this bud is a thing to behold! When popping open the jar it smells exactly like Concord grape jelly and Philadelphia Cream Cheese. The buds are densely covered in THC, purple and green in color with a light sativa structure, and lots of short orange-tan hairs. This time around I decided to bust out my microscope and look at the trichomes at sixty and one hundred times magnification so I'll be including what I saw for all three strains as well. Trichomes were almost all clear with one or two cloudy and one or two looking yellow/amber out of all visible on The Jendle #3. Once the bud was ground it smelled stronger but stayed the same in scents. It was a little wet upon immediate grind (tumbling). The smoke was soft on the inhale and tasted sweet on the exhale. It burned clean leaving a white ash. The high is superb in it's quality, coming on creeper and super long lasting going well over three hours. It's a smooth high and I remained remarkably clear minded the whole time having no paranoia. I felt very relaxed and was able to move about and have conversations with ease. I felt smiles come easier when high on this herb. No munchies or hard comedown. Next up is Carnival which is Haze x An Unknown Sativa Hybrid. Under the scope it's trichomes were the same as The Jendle #3's, almost all clear. The buds are dense for a sativa, with the typical large sativa calyxes and a few foxtails. Carnival is frosty in appearance with lots of tan pistils (hairs). Upon opening the jar I'm immediately hit with the scents of lime and lemon. In the grinder the the smell gets a touch stronger and gains a buttermint undertone. This bud is also a little wet upon immediate inspection after grind (tumbling). It dries out perfectly within a few hours after grinding if it's just one bud. The buttermint undertone is also lost upon drying out. The bud burned white and smoked smooth on the inhale and hashy on the exhale. The high comes on creeper, is all in the head, and lasts over two hours. This one is your typical sativa diva bell ringer and left me a little spaced out after going hard one afternoon. No munchies from this girl but strangely the comedown has me looking for a pillow every time. Last on this visit is The S.A.G.E. Orange Bud which is The S.A.G.E. x clone-only Cali O Bud. Pop the jar and it smells of dry tangerine peels. Upon inspection the buds are beautiful in structure, medium sized calyxes piled on top of themselves in a dense nug that sparkles under the light from it's THC. This is the densest nug of this visit and it's coated in dark orange hairs. Under the scope the trichomes on these buds are about fifty percent cloudy, twenty five percent clear and twenty five percent Amber/Red. This is the perfect time to harvest in my opinion. In the grinder the tangerine peel smell gets stronger otherwise no change and it's a little wet (tumbling). The smoke is hashy on the draw, has a faint orange taste on the exhale, and left a white ash when burnt. The high is immediate in its onset and lasts about two hours. I could feel a pleasant pressure in my head behind my eyes and I had an entire body high going at the same time as well. Comedown is more pronounced putting both the munchies and a nap on the table after a few hours.
