This weekend, Leafly is traveling to Oakland to attend the 2017 Psychedelic Science conference put on by MAPS. This will be the third international conference led by MAPS, preceded by gatherings in 2010 and 2013.

MAPS, which stands for Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the research and development of psychedelic and cannabis medicines. Founded in 1986 by Rick Doblin, MAPS is one of the strongest investigative forces worldwide pushing to explore the potential of taboo substances like cannabis, MDMA, psilocybin, LSD, and other psychedelic medicines.

Over the course of the three-day conference, researchers from all over the globe will come together to deliver a wide range of topics, from psychiatric breakthroughs to exploring the boundaries of human consciousness. Experts in the field of cannabis and cannabinoid medicines will be reporting on cutting edge research, including:

  • Cannabis as an opiate substitute by Amanda Reiman
  • Cannabis and spirituality by Kathleen Harrison
  • CBD and anxiety by Scott Shannon
  • Cannabis for PTSD by Philippe Lucas, Sue Sisley, and Zach Walsh
  • Political opportunities and barriers in cannabis research by Michael Collins, Amanda Reiman, and Nazlee Maghsoudi
  • Yoga/meditation and cannabis workshops led by Helen Kessler, Vanja Palmers, and Dee Dussault

Stay tuned for summaries, interviews, and exclusive features exploring many of these topics and more on Leafly. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter, or subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news and information following the conference.
