Leafly’s Favorite New Emoji Combos from the iOS Update

Catherine LeClairPublished on October 27, 2015 · Last updated July 28, 2020

Find yourself overusing the

leaf emoji
emoji when talking to your friends? Fear not: your creative potential has just skyrocketed with the recent iOS9 emoji update. Apple has added 184 lovable icons to its catalog, bringing the emoji dictionary count up to 1,620 different ways to use pictures when you’re at a loss for words.

Whether you’re letting your friends know that you just picked up some flower from your local dispensary or trying to propose a fun night in, here are five ways Apple’s new emoji catalog can help you.

1. Cash Dollar Money Man Says Hi

Tongue out emoji with dollar signs for eyes and tongue

Use when: You’re looking to communicate a sensation of pure anticipatory joy. Most people will think this emoji relates to cash money, but we know the “C” in Wu Tang’s infamous acronym C.R.E.A.M. really stands for “cannabis.” I mean, just look at this guy.

2. Chipotle Date Night?

Emojis: Shamrock + Person in Suit + Burrito + Question Mark

Use when: You’re proposing a Chipotle and chill night. With the introduction of the shamrock, man in business suit levitating, and the emoji everyone asked for–the burrito–it’s now almost too easy to propose your cannabis-infused date night. The shamrock hints that your cannabis possesses some lucky magical powers, while the levitating businessman lets your friend know exactly how great this night will be. And the burrito? Well that’s just proof that there is an emoji god after all.

3. Dove Dove Dove!

Emojis: 3 Doves + Exclamation Mark

Use when: You want to communicate that you’ve just picked up a fresh bunch of flower from your local dispensary. After all, budtenders are the bringers of peace and love to this world: why not treat them with the respect they deserve?

4. Couch Adventure, Anyone?

Emojis: Couch + Airplane Taking Off + Unicorn + Question Mark

Use when: You’re ready to sit back, sink into the couch, and transport yourself to a magical land. (And you’re looking for a companion to join you for the adventure.)

5. Upside-Down Smiley Guy Gets It

Emojis: 4 upside down smiley faces

Use when: You’re inviting someone over after you’ve already consumed a little. This is the guy for those times.
