A common unit of measurement for weighing cannabis. An ounce equals 28 grams, and in most adult-use states, it is the most you can buy and possess.
“I like Wedding Cake so much I bought an ounce.”
“How many grams are in an ounce of weed?”
What is an ounce?
In the legal cannabis market, an ounce of cannabis flower is usually the most you can buy and possess at once.
An ounce is equal to:
- 28 grams
- 8 eighths (3.5g per eighth)
- 4 quarters (7g per quarter)
These measurements contain this many ounces:
- 1 pound = 16 ounces
- ½ pound or a “half” = 8 ounces
- ¼ pound or a “QP” = 4 ounces
What does an ounce look like?
The smallest amount of flower you can buy at a weed shop is usually a gram, which is about 2-3 buds. Also, pre-rolls typically come in ½ gram and one gram amounts. So 28 one-gram joint will give you a sense of how much weed is in an ounce.
It can be deceiving though because different strains are denser or heavier than others. The buds of one strain may look small yet be dense and packed with trichomes, while another strain’s buds may be less dense and have less trichomes—this would make an ounce of the second strain look like more, since it isn’t as heavy.
