Get Ready for Leafly’s Cannabinoid Week

Nick Jikomes, PhDLast updated July 28, 2020
Get Ready for Leafly's Cannabinoid Week

Cannabis produces an array of plant cannabinoids (phytocannabinoids), many of which have interesting psychoactive or medicinal properties (or both). THC and CBD are the two most famous and abundant plant cannabinoids and we still have much to learn about all their effects, including interactive effects that result in the so-called “entourage effect.” In addition, there are many other cannabinoids that may have useful medical and perhaps even recreational properties.

Starting on Monday, March 20, Leafly will produce a week’s worth of content focused on plant cannabinoids, similar to what we did for CBD Week and ECS Week. This time, we’ll focus on how major plant cannabinoids like THC and CBD interact, both with each other and with prescription medications. We’ll also explore some of the lesser-known plant cannabinoids and what we know (or don’t know) about them.

Keep an eye out for this content Monday-Friday next week on Leafly News. We’ll dive into topics such as:

  • What are the main cannabinoids found in cannabis?
  • How do cannabis genetics determine the THC:CBD ratio of strains?
  • What are the biological limits of THC and CBD levels in strains? What’s the maximum THC level a strain can have?
  • How should you read product labels to determine the total THC and CBD content of cannabis product?
  • Can you predict a strain’s effects from knowing its THC:CBD ratio?
  • How do plant cannabinoids interact with prescription medications and illicit substances?
  • What do we know about other plant cannabinoids like THCV, CBG, and others?
  • How do THCA products work?
  • What are some lesser-known strains that contain uncommon cannabinoids?

Check back here on Friday, March 24 for a complete list of links to the articles in this series, and look for and click on the “Cannabinoid Week” tag at the bottom of articles to access the entire collection.
