Utopia Gardens

Utopia Gardens is hands-down, my favorite dispensary. They've done everything right, as far as I'm concerned. They serve super high quality product at all price points, so whether it's top-shelf or bottom-shelf, it's grown, trimmed, and cured well, emits the appropriate terpine profile, and is nicely representative of the strain. And despite the obvious attention to quality, they're not pretending like this stuff is anything more than it is and marking it up or hyping it up. Many of the strains are grown in-house and trimmed by the budtenders themselves, so everyone there is very familiar with the product. The concentrates are a great bang for your buck, and are always flavorful. The budtenders are all very friendly and unpretentious, like some places where I'm supposed to be impressed that they're all attractive females wearing black t-shirts or something. I always end up wasting more time than I need to just chatting with them about how much I love their stuff. I've spent quite a bit of money here and have only had a couple of minor issues, which were corrected without hesitation. They went out of their way to make sure I was happy with everything. The points program is great, you can get a free preroll or shirt or discount every now and then. The atmosphere is excellent - lots of natural light and a cool industrial feel, very unlike some of the panic-room style dispensaries you come across. They've got decent daily deals on everything, so it's best to time your purchases based on those. My only complaint is that the menu (over the last few months that I've been a patron) tends to be quite weighted towards the indicas. The focus seems to be on presenting an array of nicely-curated flower with impressive flavor profiles (as well as a large selection of cbd-focused strains), but they could use some more sativas, generally speaking. But aside from that, it amazes me that some people go to such unpleasant dispo's instead of places like this. HIGHLY recommended.

3Fifteen - 8 Mile & Gratiot (Medical)

You can find some low prices here and there, if you pay attention to their sales, but I haven't been impressed by any of the bud that I've purchased nor smelled here, and unfortunately most of the budtenders are VERY young and don't seem to have much knowledge or experience to draw upon. Decent selection, lots of accessories that you can probably find cheaper at an actual head shop. This place is alright, but seems a bit amateur, and there's more attractive options out there.

I had a bit of an issue with my flower, but they went out of their way to ensure my satisfaction, which definitely made up for any possible error. The manager and bud tender I spoke with were exceedingly friendly. I will definitely give it another shot in the future.

This is my favorite dispensary. It's completely unpretentious, and it's apparent that they're trying to give you the best bang for your buck. I rarely have had to wait, and if I have, I'm generally next in line. The selection is moderate to large for all categories and flower. The floor plan is open and unconstricting, like some of the little panic-rooms that dispensaries have. The bud is on the counter, accessible to both parties, rather than guarded behind glass. I find it condescending when I am treated like I might steal something, even though I know people are just generally trying to protect themselves. As far as the bud goes, I've only tried a few of their strains, but I've been super satisfied. Some of the $50 quarters I've gotten here have rivaled some of the top-shelf stuff I've gotten elsewhere. Their $25 premium golden house shatter is generally excellent for the money as well. I've saved the best for last... The REAL reason to go here are the budtenders. They are so completely (again) unpretentious and personable. Smiles every time, and I genuinely believe they remember me and are happy to see me. Always time to chat, always a "real" person, not some inexperienced kid who's just happy to be working in a dispensary, not some sexy bitch who I'm supposed to be impressed with... This place immediately became my "home" dispensary. Highly recommended.

House of Dank Medical Cannabis - 8 Mile

This place is OK. But there are way better options out there, within steps from here. I've gone here 3 or 4 times. I've only had my medical card for a few months, and I don't quite understand why this place is as popular as it is. It is secure, and you'll have to empty your pockets and walk through a metal detector when you go in. You stand in a short line to give your ID to the young woman behind the bulletproof glass, and are told it will be a few minutes. While this process is pretty typical, I found it to be a little cold and impersonal. They see a lot of people come through the door here, and I'm sure I'm just another number to them, so it makes sense. But it would make more sense for them to be more warm and welcoming as a first impression, as this kinda sets the tone for the rest of your experience. There have probably been about a dozen people in the waiting room on average when I've gone, and the wait time has been about 10 minutes, typically. Not acceptable, but again, I rarely have to wait at all elsewhere. When I was called back, I was surprised to see that the bud room was actually pretty small and chaotic, and it seems like there's always a bit of tension in the air, as though the workers are uncomfortable and annoyed. As far as I understand, they're expanding, so hopefully this will help in that regard. (unfortunately, I've seen a lot of dispensaries go too far in the other direction and have a ton of wasted floorspace). The (as far as I've seen) all-female budtenders are generally pleasant enough, but I get the impression that I'm supposed to be impressed with them for some reason, and I'm not. They move quickly and the transaction is more of a brief exchange, rather than an exploration and discussion. This makes sense, given the number of customers they accommodate, but I feel hurried, and pressured to utilize their time efficiently - and it's not that I care to waste anyone's time, but I definitely feel more relaxed at other dispensaries. On one occasion, one of the budtenders got rude with me because she misunderstood what I told her and started suggesting things over my budget, and then acted like it was my fault somehow when I had to repeat. I know what I said, but even if I had been the one to have made the mistake, she should've been easygoing enough to move on without an attitude. As far as the product goes, they've got a huge selection of all categories of items and bud, and having only visited a few times, obviously haven't tried a ton of it. I was sold a couple of very mediocre distillate cartridges by a budtender that suggested them, and knowing how I could have spent that $60 now, I find it disappointing that those were recommended to me. I also relied on them to suggest a couple of different sativas, and they were relatively inexpensive, so I couldn't have expected them to be much better than mediocre as well. As other reviewers have mentioned, their house shatter is kind of a disaster. Please take your $25 elsewhere for a gram of shatter. With the completely unpretentious Flavors and the posh Reef a mile down the road, there's no reason to go here, unless you're looking for something specific that is out of stock elsewhere.
