This Kickstarter Campaign Wants to Build a Cannabis Island Paradise

Hannah MeadowsLast updated September 26, 2022

Editor’s Note: Kickstarter suspended this campaign’s funding on 3/16/2017.

Ever consider owning your own little slice of paradise surrounded by breezy palm trees and like-minded people? Well, look no further than Ganjaland – a self-described “cannabis themed crowdfunding project” dedicated to making that slice of paradise a reality. The campaign hit Kickstarter on March 10, and from now through May 9, you can invest in this private island dedicated to relaxation and — though it isn’t specified, but we assume — open cannabis consumption.

This faraway passion project imagined by one ‘Jesse Ferrell’ touches on the dream of nearly every cannabis consumer: a chill and open space of acceptance and community where cannabis is as freely available as the sea breeze. Though we can’t pinpoint where exactly this island will be (near Vanuatu, the video claims) or even much of the planning for this project other than “send money,” it’s a lovely concept. Besides, the video promises that “your money is safe” and “full transparency [is] guaranteed.”

Kickstarter pledges will gain you certain privileges once this enigmatic idea potentially becomes a real-life island. Donations from a dollar and up will grant you “Instant Carma” ($5), advertising space in Ganjaland ($100), or a 10-night stay in Ganjaland ($420), while donations reaching $10,000 and above grant you “permanent citizenship” and the opportunity to star in the Ganjaland Reality TV Show that we’re sure will become a reality itself and keep mainlanders on the edge of their seats. So far, the campaign has only raised $120 of its $50,000 goal, but no matter — there are still several weeks to go.

The exact step-by-step guide to how this project will come to fruition is a mystery to all but the creator (and we do not suggest investing until you have all the facts yourself), however it would be quite the stunning endeavor if completed. So, if you do decide to take the leap, and all ends well and good, keep us in mind while you sip on those cannabis-infused cocktails whilst soaking up the sun on one of the island’s many beaches. To learn more about this project and for your own enjoyment, follow Ganjaland on Facebook and watch the utterly inexplicable “Ganjaland Explained” video below.
