Texas Strikes Liquid Gold, Is Legalizing Cannabis Oil

Published on June 1, 2015 · Last updated July 28, 2020

2015 has been a big year for Texas and its cannabis efforts. In the past couple months, the Lone Star State introduced a number of cannabis bills for consideration, with a limited medical marijuana bill that would legalize cannabis oil for epileptic patients getting passed by the House. The cannabis oil bill has been awaiting Governor Greg Abbott’s signature, and we’re thrilled to hear that the governor announced he would sign it sometime today.

The bill is restricting cannabis oil access to epilepsy patients with a valid prescription, but it’s still a huge positive step forward for medical marijuana in the state of Texas and provides some hope for the other bills being considered. Congratulations to all of the patients who will immensely benefit from this piece of legislation—we’re hoping broader access is next up on the agenda!
