Brazil to Allow the Import of CBD Hemp Oil Products From the US

Published on May 18, 2015 · Last updated July 28, 2020

The Brazilian governmental health surveillance agency, ANVISA, is now allowing CBD hemp oil products to be imported into the country. Although any cannabis-derived products are illegal in the country, there’s been a recent shift in attitudes towards CBD hemp oil thanks to two brave little girls, 5 year-old Harper Howard from Texas and 6 year-old Anny Fischer from Brazil.

Both young ladies suffer from CDKL5, a rare genetic disorder that causes frequent debilitating seizures. They’ve found considerable relief from using CBD oil to help mitigate the frequency of their seizures, sparking a discussion in Brazil as to whether the same medication should be allowed for thousands of potential patients throughout the country. Watch Anny’s plight captured in the documentary feature “ILEGAL” (Portuguese for “illegal”) below:

Ultimately, Anny Fischer and her family compelled ANVISA to import San Diego-based HempMeds’ Real Scientific Hemp Oil (or RSHO) product to Brazil. RSHO will be available in Brazil with a doctor’s prescription and an ANVISA import permit, and the cost of the product will be subsidized by the government and covered by insurance companies.

This is a huge step for the largest country in South America and the eighth largest global economy, and it’s a positive example of swift forward progress that can inspire and motivate the rest of the world. Here’s hoping outright legalization is in Brazil’s near future as well.
