U.S. Senators to Introduce Historic Federal Medical Marijuana Bill

March 9, 2015

Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Rand Paul (R-KY) are planning to introduce a historic bill tomorrow that could revolutionize cannabis in the United States as we know it.

The new bill, entitled, “The Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States (CARERS) Act”, would allow patients, doctors, and businesses in states that have already passed medical marijuana laws to participate in these industries without fear of federal prosecution. Removing federal barriers will bring a huge sigh of relief for medical marijuana advocates across the states, and this bill has the advantage of bipartisan support across the aisle, which means it has a very high likelihood of passing.

The details of the bill will be announced at a press conference Tuesday at 12:30 pm EST — we'll bring you more updates as they arise (you can also watch the live stream on YouTube).
