Fernway - Homegrown - 0.5g Vape Cartridge (S)

12/28/2023
For reference, purchased as a "Pineland Diesel" cart in a rec shop in NJ--this seems to be the same product, based on packaging and flavors, but with a different name in the MA rec market. As usual, this Fernway cart 100% delivers in terms of flavor. I deeply appreciate that Fernway carts have distinct scents and flavors (especially on the exhale), but do not taste too "artificial," like some flavored carts I've tasted in the past. Yes, I realize Fernway uses botanical terps, but I am consistently stoked on their flavors--the only vape carts I've ever felt that way about! This one tastes just as described--piney, chem-y, and also lemon-y. (Not unlike a Sour Diesel, but a bit more lemony/piney and less chem-y.) According to a blog post on Fernway's own site, this is a hybrid of Sour Diesel and Pineapple strains, and that seems to track, given the effects I feel from this cart. Definitely a classic Sour Diesel-style mental alertness/focus, the kind that isn't too overstimulating but that you definitely notice. There's a touch of pain relief and physical relaxation to the effects, as well, but it's definitely a sativa-dom strain that hits the head much more strongly than anything else. I typically enjoy a couple of hits of something before bed, and have tried all kinds of strains at that time of day; this one is definitely mentally stimulating and will not put you to sleep quickly--but it also will not keep you awake all night (I've had that bad luck a few times, with strains like Cookies-derived hybrids or certain phenos of Northern Lights--not that I don't enjoy those strains, but I just can't have them before bed--this is not the case with Pineland Diesel, as long as you give yourself about an hour, hour and a half or so to enjoy the effects before really needing to fall asleep). PD is a great strain for mental focus and creative thoughts, but you won't end up TOO deep down any rabbit hole, and you will also still get a little (tiny) touch of a body high. Overall, great product and effects! Very happy; only 4/5 and not straight-up 5 stars is because I've simply had even better strains (including Fernway products--Berry Haze is currently the MVP in my book, and GG#4 is always great as well).

Fernway - Cranberry Jam - 0.5g Vape Cartridge (H)

12/28/2023
Purchased a cart at a rec shop in NJ. First off, just want to say that it's 3/5 stars for me only because of the strain effects. This is a true hybrid--which, is just not my favorite type of strain. It's one of those hybrids where it's extremely balanced in terms of sativa-indica effects--so much so that you might have moments where you stop to wonder "Am I actually/still high...?". If you like that, this is an excellent strain for you--however, I personally prefer to feel a dominance one way or the other. That said, the balanced effects can be pleasant when you have stuff you want to get done, but want to feel good doing it, both mentally and physically. Not bad for a kitchen dance party while doing dishes or the like, if you get my drift. Actually, that's the perfect type of thing to use this strain for; but if you prefer more mental stimulation or a more intense relaxation, look for something that leans more one way or the other (aka less balanced). Flavor is EXCELLENT in my opinion, as is true for all the Fernway vapes I've tried so far. Yes, I know Fernway uses botanical terps, but their flavors consistently deliver in terms of the pleasant "wow" factor for me. They always taste natural (vs. vapes you can tell are more artificially "flavored" the way a Starbucks syrup can be--cloying and/or fake-tasting), and subtle. This one tastes like a tart, lemon-berry (I mean, it IS called "cranberry" for a reason!) on the exhale.

Fernway - Lavender Dream 0.5g Vape Cartridge (I)

12/28/2023
This was the first Fernway vape cart I ever tried; purchased at a rec shop in NJ. Flavor is EXCELLENT. Tastes exactly like lavendar-vanilla, and maybe a touch of sandalwood/woody-ness on the exhale. Yes, I realize Fernway uses botanical terps but I am very impressed with the flavor--first vape carts I've ever tried where I'm genuinely impressed with the flavor. Effects are strongly indica. Full-body relaxation hits quick, maybe a sliiiight tingly feeling. But the most noticeable effect, to me, is the literally irresistible desire to close my eyes (it's like that feeling where you "just can't keep your eyes open")--granted, I do use this before bed, but that was always the intention with this product for me, so it's perfect get-to-sleep medicine if you need it. Tbh, couldn't really tell you any more about the effects of this guy because I usually fall asleep maybe 30 minutes after hitting the cart (again, as desired for me). Only reason I give 4/5 stars instead of 5 is just because I don't usually go for a heavy indica effect in general--however, if you're hoping for a great insomnia cure, this is a 5-star product!

Fernway - Berry Haze - 0.5g Vape Cartridge (I)

12/28/2023
Purchased the Berry Haze traveler at a rec shop in NJ. (A++ design for a portable vape! Rechargeable, easy to use, and feels nice in the hand & on you lips.) Although on Leafly and most rec shops menus this is listed as an indica, I would describes its effects as solidly in the hybrid category, maybe even leaning more sativa--which makes sense, given there's a blog post on Fernway's own website describing it as a sativa-dominant hybrid. They call it a hybrid of Super Silver Haze & Blueberry. This does make it like Blue Dream on steroids, in my opinion. The Haze influence is stronger initially, as I felt its head high pretty strongly about 10-15 minutes after vaping--a bit of a creeping effect there. More psychoactive to me than any Blue Dream I've ever tried. Also, the Haze lineage provides excellent (I mean EXCELLENT) nerve-pain relief--(also) great for PMS pain; one of the best strains for nerve pain I've ever tried, my new go-to for that. The Blueberry influence can also be felt in the body relaxation effects you're sure to feel as well. Overall, a very nice combo of effects for me. Flavor is very nice as well; Fernway is the only vape brand I've tried so far that I'm actually stoked about the flavors. Yes, I realize they are botanical terps but they do make the vape taste great! This one has a nice berry-birch flavor (as promised--if you don't know what "birch" tastes like, try a birch beer...it's sorta like cream soda meets sarsaparilla) which I really enjoy.

Pineapple Diesel

11/17/2023
I'm reviewing a Fernway Pineland Diesel cart, which, in a blog post on the company website, is described as a Sour Diesel x Pineapple cross--this seems accurate to me, based on other folks' reviews of Pineapple Diesel. I've always been a huge Sour Diesel fan (back in the black market days, this was the first strain that I made sure to double-check with my friend I smoked with to note the strain--I loved it so much, I wanted to be able to come back to it time and again), so anything with SD in its lineage, I'm interested. This cross does not disappoint. Smell & taste--a cart doesn't usually offer much in terms of smell, but I've noticed Fernway carts have a lovely scent as soon as you remove the little rubber mouth cap. This one smells like lovely earthy pine. But, I was a bit disappointed in the taste--much more woody-diesel flavor, especially on the exhale. Not a problem, necessarily, but I was expecting a whole heap o' pine flavor, which I didn't taste. Effects--The high is wonderful. I was worried about hitting it before bed because of its reported "energetic" effect, but it wasn't a problem. The most prominent effect initially is that nice headband-y pressure behind the eyes and around the forehead (nice classic sativa effect); very comfy cozy though. Any anxiety and stress of the day quickly melted away. I soon felt my whole body start to release all its muscle tension of the day and relax into a very pleasant, but relatively mild, body high that helped ease (if not totally eliminate) a bit of nerve pain (for me, the perfect amount of body high, as I don't usually go looking to get completely couch-locked, but it's nice to feel your body get all loose and settled at the end of the day). I enjoyed a nice documentary about the James Webb telescope on Netflix for a while, the Sour Diesel lineage making its presence felt as I was able to focus on all the little details of the process of building and launching the telescope, not to mention the (literally) far out images the telescope produces. Eventually, I started to fall asleep, but when I opened my eyes again at one point, I was loving the mild but fun visual effects--not "visuals" per se, as I've experienced with a couple of other strains (e.g. Master Kush, that provided straight up psychedelic visuals for me, like nothing I've experienced with any other weed)--it was like I could see all the molecules in everything around me vibrating or pulsing slightly (I absolutely LOVE when this happens, but it could be a bit disconcerting for newbies if you're not expecting it). It was pretty mellow and short-lived but I really enjoyed it while it lasted. I ended up falling asleep soon after that, so can't speak to the comedown if there is one, but SD never gave me any problems on that front in the past, so I suspect it wouldn't be an issue with this strain, either. Overall, a really solid high that I can see being quite versatile--could be great during the day, but wasn't a problem at night before bed. It also has renewed my love of Sour Diesel-based strains, as the last couple of times I tried anything SD-related (Sour Diesel purchased at a rec dispensary in CA, and Headband purchased at a rec dispensary in MA), it didn't feel potent enough for my liking. This one, on the other hand, does justice to its SD lineage but also introduces a bit more in terms of body effects, seemingly thanks to its Pineapple parent. Would definitely recommend it to anyone for use at any time of day or night.

MAC

Was super excited to check out this strain, as I'd heard great things. Well, those great things were justified! But, there was a bit of a downside, too--hence the 3 star rating (I'd give it like 3.5 or 3.75 if I could). I consumed this by using my Pax 3 (dry-herb vape). The high came on quick as I was listening to the late, great Toots & the Maytals "Funky Kingston" record. "WOW, I thought to myself, this is UNDENIABLY THE BEST MUSIC EVER MADE!" lol. (I already love this type of music, but you can more deeply appreciate the layers of musical influences and nuances of the music while stoned, I think.) I was laying on my bed at first, but very quickly, I felt like I just couldn't possibly sit still and HAD to get up and dance around my room like a happy fool. It was an extremely euphoric moment. I was disappointed when the record ended because it made me realize I didn't have any more first-wave ska records in my collection to keep the dance party going...! I only consumed a small amount of flower (like 2 hits off the Pax), so the high felt very short-lived (I listened to about 1.5 records before feeling the high wear off). The downside to this high was that the comedown was a bit tough. After feeling SO good during the peak of the high, it felt a bit depressing to come back down to Earth, and furthermore, I felt a little bit of a headache come on. I guess this is what it means to have a mild "weed hangover," something I've rarely (if ever) experienced (although this may be due to the fact that I typically smoke before bed, so I usually just fall asleep). The only other time I can remember feeling a similar kind of comedown effect is after smoking GSC, which has given me a bit of that depressive feeling after the fact, plus a bit of dizziness as well. Overall, I do recommend trying this baby out, it's extremely euphoric, a bit creative as you can really appreciate all the little aspects of music and being alive in general that you might not normally be tuned into, but just beware of the potential comedown.

Sour Tangie

11/3/2021
WOW F***in Five Stars for this baby...!! Picked up a .5 gram vape cart from Stiiizy for the Dead & Co. shows at the Hollywood Bowl last weekend, and boy oh boy did I pick a perfect strain for a live concert! Nice sativa energy, so you can vibe and dance to the music. Excellent cerebral high--I got super focused on various creative thoughts that came to me as I listened to the music (you can ask my buddies, I was expounding on several philosophical topics during the break between sets). And as my buddies will attest, talkative as hell--I felt I had lots of fascinating insights into topics far and wide, and just could not keep them to myself. One of the happiest and most giggly highs I've had in a while (not too far off from Pineapple Express--but occasionally, PE can get my anxiety up--not at all with Sour Tangie, luckily!). A+ strain for going out on the town, having fun and letting your mind delve into whatever weird ideas come to mind, but still staying focused and in the moment all throughout! Absolutely love it.

Northern Lights

9/2/2021
OMFG. This is The Stuff! Full disclosure, I'm using a 1:1 THC: CBD Northern Lights vaporizer cartridge. I was initially skeptical about 1:1--I had first heard it being talked up at California dispensaries when I would visit family out there, and honestly, I thought it was all talk (budtenders would say things like "oh the entourage effect" and "of course, everyone knows cannabis works best in a 1:1 ratio" and I was just like, "OK buddy, stop trying to sell me on this...!"). Well, a few months ago, I tried my first 1:1 product while visiting a friend in Cali and I finally became convinced it wasn't all hype. So when I got back to the East Coast, and saw a 1:1 Northern Lights vape cart at one of my local dispensaries, I thought I'd give it a fair shake. I am NOT disappointed--in fact, I'm positively thrilled! This is THE solution to insomnia--something I've struggled with basically my whole life, at least since I was old enough to figure out it was an issue for me, in my early teen years. I have tried a few other strains, hoping to find a good solution to my insomnia, and some have been really great at helping me get to sleep. But, the 1:1 element in this Northern Lights cart takes my insomnia cure to the next level. Not only does it help me feel very relaxed and to fall asleep quickly, it definitely helps me achieve the best QUALITY sleep I have possibly ever had. At least according to my FitBit, I have a perfect balance of REM, light, and deep sleep whenever I used this 1:1 version of this strain--something no other cannabis strain has managed to afford me, so far (REM sleep always suffers at least a little when I used pure THC strains). Furthermore, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the gentle but awesome cerebral stimulation Northern Lights offers!! I usually smoke or vape before going to bed, to unwind and relax and help me nod off, but I usually like to watch a movie or TV show or listen to music before heading off to Dreamland. My 1:1 Northern Lights is PERFECT for enjoying this experience before quickly and easily nodding off for the night! It is an incredible cerebral experience anytime I use it. (For example, as I watch my favorite TV shows, like Lucifer or Battlestar Galactica or Star Trek--yes, I'm a huge geek!--I cannot help but let my mind wander off in some really meta directions every time I use this vape cart...like, to the point where I tend to have to rewatch a scene a few times because I keep losing track of what's happening, but in the BEST WAY--because my mind is processing stuff on an entirely different level--like, "OMG, Neil Gaiman is a genius because this is a meta commentary on how all humans need to be able to tell themselves a story of who they are or want to be--and wow, what a variety of stories our many human cultures have to offer us to choose from, amazing...!!--in order to become who they REALLY are--oh wait, what is this murder they are trying to solve actually about...?? Lemme just rewind a lil bit...". OR, "OMG, Gen Z loves bands like Blondie not just because of memes, but because of the crossover appeal this band offers--after all, they were able to appeal to punk audiences AND disco audiences AND pop/new-wave audiences--AND it turns out that Gen Z actually likes disco I think...!? Because there's definitely a melodic relationship between Dua Lipa's 'Levitating' and the Beegees' 'Stayin' Alive!'" ...lol, yep, total High-deas, but I absolutely love it, and this strain just makes me laugh about it, not paranoid about it.). It's just the right balance of "now I can PROFOUNDLY enjoy my evening routine AND fall asleep quickly and easily whenever I'm ready...!" (My favorite strain of all time is Jack Herer, and now I can definitely see where a huge part of that cerebral high comes from...! If you like Jack Herer, but want something a little bit more sedating/less energizing, this is a perfect option!) I sure hope I can get my hands on this in the future because this could be my new everyday (OK, everyNIGHT) medicine for the foreseeable future...!

LA Confidential

9/2/2021
Holy sedation, Batman...!! Wowza, this is MEDICINE right here...! This is some powerful stuff. I usually smoke or vape cannabis before bed, to unwind and relax, but also for some cerebral stimulation (I know, that's somewhat contradictory, but what can I say--I love to watch some movie or TV show or listen to music to unwind, enjoy the added dimensions that cannabis can offer to such an experience, and then drop off to sleep). This strain is the BEST remedy for insomnia I have encountered so far...! I've always struggled with borderline insomnia--it's always been hard for me to fall asleep (my mind tends to race when I get into bed at night), as well as to stay asleep. When I toke on some LA Confidential, it's off to Snoozeville in NO time...! Like, NO time--I'm lucky if I'm awake for half an hour after smoking this (it almost feels like a waste of precious bud to toke on this before bed...). Frankly, I kinda wish I would NOT fall asleep so quickly, as I would like to enjoy the gentle, creative stimulation and soothing, full-body relaxation this strain seems to offer for a little longer before dropping off to sleep. However, I refuse to look a gift horse in the mouth too much, because this is the solution to sleeplessness I've been searching for...

Walker Kush

6/19/2021
One of the first strains I got my hands on in the legal market. By now I have both smoked the flower via a one-hitter and vaporized it in my Pax 3. When I first tried it via one-hitter, I found the effects to be extremely pleasurable. I felt relaxed but not heavily sedated, and my mind was still sparking with creativity and focus. I spent the evening listening to music and (re)discovering how truly masterful The Clash's "London Calling" really is!! After I turned the lights out to unwind and get some sleep, I did find myself enjoying some mild psychedelic visuals (blue and green bursts, quite lovely and fun). Cannot report even one negative effect from the whole experience; very chill high that has a nicely balanced effect on both mind and body. It was an excellent re-introduction to the world of weed after a long time away. A few months later, I packed my Pax 3 oven for a solo session and went at it. It had been a while since the last time I'd smoked it, and furthermore, my tolerance has gone way up since that first experience. This time around, I don't remember noticing such pronounced effects, but I was mildly high, even more chill than the first time around. Not sure if this time the flower had less potency, or if I had my Pax heat setting too low (I usually like it on 2 out of 4 heat level for flower, giving me a nice mix of effectiveness and flavor), or if it's just that my tolerance has gone way up, but it wasn't as distinctive of a high this time around. Would strongly recommend to the novice user, as it's a very nicely balanced high, but still has its distinctive qualities, when smoked. Probably best in the evening/at night, but probably could be nice at other times of day, as it's not too overwhelming (I typically only smoke in the evening). Experienced users might want something stronger, though it's still a very nice high no matter what.
