I got my vagina stoned for Valentine’s Day

Published on February 8, 2022

This pandemic has been murder on my sex drive and I can’t be the only one. We are about to start year three of prolonged stress, isolation, and being stuck inside with the same people (or alone with your thoughts.)

While I think it is completely normal to feel this way, I decided to get proactive and enlist Mary Jane to help me get back in touch with that part of myself.

Getting stoned and having sex isn’t exactly new, but there is more than one way to incorporate cannabis into intimate experiences. Infused topicals like lubricants, oils, and suppositories can all be used to enhance desire (and orgasms.)

Cannabis is joining the ranks of wine, chocolate, and lingerie when it comes to enhancing sex and romance on Valentine’s Day.

Best cannabis lube for partnered sex

Water-based unisex lubricant

By: Proofly

Licensed Producer: Lupos Biotechnology

Dose: 6.25 mg THC, 125 mg CBD per container

First off, this product is not the consistency you are expecting it to be. Unlike the thicker, almost aloe gel textured lubes we know, this lube is basically water.

I hope this disclaimer saves you an awkward, albeit hilarious, scenario that I experienced when first opening the bottle mid-romp.

Have you ever used a bottle of essential oils? It’s very similar to that, you invert the bottle and shake little droplets of water-based lubricant on the desired area. Despite being the consistency of water, this lube packs some serious slip.

Unlike infused massage oils and oil-based lubricants, Proofly’s water-based product does not interfere with latex condoms. For other infused products on the market, consumers should note that they are not always condom compatible.

I felt the effects rather quickly*, noticing a warmth and intensity that isn’t present when I use non-infused products. There was a mild and pleasant tingling and heat to the external region and internally, I definitely noticed the increased sensation.

*If you are able to plan ahead, the effects DO intensify after about 10-15 min.

Maybe it was all in my head, but my vagina definitely felt stoned. Cannabis is variable and everyone feels it differently. When I am high, music sounds better, food tastes more complex, I am more aware of my surroundings, and in tune with my body. So that…but for sex.

After the fact, Proofly’s product rinses right off with water and leaves no residue behind. As someone prone to yeast infections (I know, not sexy) I am so nervous trying new products down there. If that resonates with you, I am happy to say that there were no surprises after repeated use.

Best for cannabis lube for solo sensation

Sex Pot intimacy oil

By: Latitude by 48North

Licensed Producer: Delshen Therapeutics

Dose: 400 mg THC, 17 mg CBD per container

This high-THC oil is great for a solo sensual massage to reconnect you with your sex drive. This intimacy oil may not be condom-compatible but it may be compatible with reclaiming your orgasms.

I don’t have the equipment to tell you if it works for people with penises, but if you happen to have a vagina, this might remind you of products from your Fantasia party days. If you have ever tried one of those clitoris or g-spot stimulating lotions and potions, the effects of this product might feel familiar.

For me, this is a definite ‘works while you wait’ kind of product. The longer you leave it on, the more time the THC has to work its magic.

So light some candles, queue up a sexy playlist, and settle in. Sex Pot intimacy oil helped me take some time to remember that self-care isn’t all baths and long walks—sometimes it’s turning off your phone, forgetting the world is on fire, and getting your vagina seriously stoned.

DIY weed lube

You don’t need to spend big bucks to have great sex on Valentine’s Day. While ready-made products are available (thank you legalization!) you can certainly DIY. Weed lube can be as simple as two ingredients—coconut oil and cannabis.

“Weed lube” can be a misleading term. Technically speaking, any infused coconut/MCT oil can be used topically on genitals. Though if you are sensitive to changes in pH, or are using condoms for contraception/STI’s, this might not be the best option for you.

To make your own, you can use a ready-made oil on the external area, or follow our simple and easy recipe for DIY cannabis lube.
