Chemdawg #4

1/8/2020
Well I kinda slacked on the reviews, but since I am going on a tolerance break for quite awhile I figured I would review this one. I am dabbing some terpy sugar from Grassroots purchased at an Illinois dispensary. I have 20+ years of smoking experience. Flavor is like hashy, peppery, piney, citrus, earth and diesel. This stuff is just classic ChemDog/90s flavor. This is weed to me. Its got that nice cerebral rush with a body buzz. Its very psychedelic at high doses and focusing at lower doses. However, Chem 4 does tend to be more of an indica. This one might be my favorite because it is more body focused. Think Sour Diesel but more body with less of a head high (though you can still really go out there with it). This is just what I like. Its similar to the type of weed I grew up smoking. Having this as an extract takes this too the next level. It tastes potent but not OG potent, more similar to Sour D. I think this one is best reserved for Vets. Also, it does tend to be pretty sedating after an hour or so. This stuff is a bit of a creeper as well. This stuff is a fine weed to go out on a long break with. Glad I grabbed this one for my last fling with herb for awhile. Perfect stuff to go out on a break with. I am tapering and conserving this gram over the next couple of days.

8 Ball Kush

11/2/2019
Had a half gram of crumble of this and this one shines in the effects department. It has a floral, lemon, hash, clean flavor to it. The high feels very hashy and body oriented. My sample had an over 1 percent CBD percentage and it shows. This one must be kept to the night-time for anything more then a light dose. Over the past two weeks I've gotten to sample extracts of Skywalker, Sour Kush and 8 Ball Kush by PTS Illinois and this was by far my favorite. Frankly, it has elements of what I consider my "perfect stone", its just lacking some the of cerebral component I found in the late 2000s OGs that I love. You can really see how big of a role the Afghani genetics play in the OG. This one is almost completely there for me. Nighttime only for anybody who isn't a vet. This one is going to knock you out. It isn't going to blow you away terp/flavor wise nowadays but what lacks in flavor is made up for in the effects department. This is a relic from the past and existed at a time when Cannabis was still illegal in most places. This is a Dutch Afghani for sure. It really has that classic mild narcotic high that many tokers in their 30s seek out nowadays because we were able to experience peak Cannabis breeding in the past.

Sour Kush

First and foremost: I am reviewing a crumble of this flower. Having this as hash/extract likely added on a star to this review. It seems like the flower of this strain would be rather bleh and bland. Many reviews outside of leafly seem to indicate this. I got a gram of cured crumble by PTS for 40.00 out of an Illinois dispo. This is a good price in this state so that influenced the purchase. You are essentially get around 4 grams of flower for 10 bucks a gram. I cannot wait for the day in which flower ends up around 5.00 a gram. If I could get something like this for 25-30 a gram I would purchase it regularly. Where this one shines the most is the effects. It is the truest hybrid of OG and Sour D effects wise. You get some of the heady cerebral stone, especially at first. Sour D doesn't "couch lock" most, it "mind locks" them. The OG body buzz appears, especially later. The almost opiate like sense of content found in OG is present along with the euphoria of found in Sour Diesel. The thing is, neither of these are very prevalent over the other. This essentially turns it into a daytime indica. Everything is a dang daytime indica nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I like the Gelato and Cookies lines but miss the variety we saw in Cannabis effects that was present from the 70s to 2011ish. Overall people seem to focus more on taste then effects nowadays, both are important and influence each other. They need to be kept in balance. Lower doses of the stuff tend to be more energetic of course and higher doses tend to be more sedating. Both of these strains have these features. Terp wise nothing really stands out. Maybe I am getting jaded after 20 years. Back in the day though I loved the "Deathstar" found on Phish tour which was run by a crew originally out of Ohio. They always claimed it was Sour D crossed with OG. They came out with a more interesting pheno. Which brings me to my final point, I don't grow but I'd imagine there is a lot of potential in back crossing these strains. Likely lots of different phenos that lean one way or the other, but then again that kinda ruins the point of this hybrid. This is one I would recommend for newbies for sure. Especially as an introduction to Sour Diesel. A lot of people get anxiety from that strain. If you cannot handle this strain you likely could not handle Sour D. This is also a very good social strain. Come to think of it, so was Deathstar.

Skywalker

10/28/2019
Wasn't too crazy about this one. Supposedly this is the infamous "Skywalker" which I used to really like. I grabbed a half gram of live resin from an Illinois dispensary. Clocked in around 90 percent THC with no CBD. Flavor was good and it did carry that old 90s Blueberry terp that was popular in the US and with the Dutch. The Mazar seemed to be added to make the Blueberry more of a production plant and it shows. I haven't really had a ton of the Blueberry related stuff and this was a fun little blast from the past but its not one I would seek out. Blueberry has been around since the 70s and sadly the line appears to be showing its age. I am glad I got a half gram because once the novelty wore off I found myself enjoying some generic Afghani crumble with a very respectable CBD number far more. The high was just better. However, I found this strain to be a really mild and functional indica. It does tend to couch lock you a bit but it doesn't really confuse you. The indica euphoria is the most pronounced effect and I was glad to find that Blueberry still carries its legendary munchie effects. This one still sends me to the fridge and that doesn't happen like it used to. I have been smoking for over 20 years and when I started Blueberry was one of the most sought after strains. Back then, "Orange", "Lemon", "Maple", "Strawberry", "Blueberry" were basically the only fruit flavors around.

RudeBoi OG

8/31/2019
This is the best representation of the classic OG that I have had in a long time. Just pure gas, diesel, earth, funk, lemon, dirt. Some of the tastiest rosin I have had in awhile. This is a must purchase for the OGheads out there. You know who you are, if you feel in love with herb in the late 90s then make sure you grab this time machine back to some easier times. I'd love to gift some of this rosin to my high school self (guess I'd just top a bowl with it)? Also, this is the ultimate PTSD medicine as long as you are a vet. Newbies I'd imagine should be cautious.

MAC

I've had this as flower but have really enjoyed it as a concentrate. A rare five star for me, this one has everything. Old School skunk, that landrace spice and some of that new school baked goods/cream finish. The high is pure hybrid, especially as a concentrate. Very relaxing and focusing. The best part is the flavor for sure. Higher doses are sedating, but you can knock yourself out with any Cannabis at the right dosage.

Wild Thailand

Being a genetics nerd, I am always interested in tasting things that are purported to be landraces or close to them. At the very least, it will help expand my palate . I was able to grab a half gram of crumble of this strain from an Illinois dispensary. Somewhat Surprisingly, the sample did contain some CBD. I could see that with some flower, but the fact that it carried through to the crumble was impressive. Mind you, this is the first dab I have taken in like two months. However, I am very well versed in all forms of cannabis consumption. Concentrates being one of my major interests. The flavor of this strain was woody and sweet, especially when dabbed hot. I then tried a low temp dab and was surprised to find the sweetness heightened to almost a candy like sweet. Some type of unidentifiable fruit flavor was in there as well but it almost tasted like a very raw "purple" flavor. Maybe the thai strains contributed the berry flavors to our modern hybrids. The effects of this were indeed racy! I got a bit hot and sweaty. I just now decided to do one more tiny dab and just feel uplifted. I have been doing chores and relaxing around the house. Will likely crack a beer. Its the day after the 4th of July so why the hell not? Not a huge drinker but this stuff feels like it will mix well with a low alcohol lager. The body buzz is really cool on this stuff, its pretty physical for a sativa and I have to admit I am more of a physical then cerberal guy with weed nowadays. That being said, thai is notorious for having "no ceiling" and can supposedly get psychedelic. I am not one to push that personally, but for this one is good for both the space cadets and the stoners . I'd recommend some experience before using this stuff, especially as a concentrate. I'd for sure pick this stuff up again. The company that made this tends to do some pretty interesting work with a variety of landrace/unique strains. Finally, its great that I can walk into a store and buy an extract of a very classic strain that my parents grew up enjoying. The concentrate experience really lets you experience the full essence of this strain.

Sugar Black Rose

5/16/2019
Going to give this one a three because in today's world, you can get better terps. My 1/8th was by In Grown Farms out of Freeport, IL. I am a medical patient, this product came in around 19-20 percent THC. I needed an Indica and I was in Europe during Black Domina's reign, plus a lot of the Sensi Products made there way to the midwest. Critical Mass makes this even more of a work plant and this is one. That is not to say it doesn't bring it in the effects department. Its a great old school Indica high. This brings back some memories and reminds me why I almost immediately recognized Cannabis was good medicine. The smoke itself is smooth, the flavor is old school Central Asian. Don't expect skunk... expect pepper, earth and wood. I've seen some reviews suggest floral flavors. I am not tasting that. I think the pheno I sampled leaned towards the Black Domina, which is what I would want. Effects: Low Doses: Focus, relaxation, stress relief, euphoria, muscle relaxation High Doses: Narcotic, stony, sleepy, mild appetite increase Tolerance Level: Coming off a month break, this was my first Cannabis product back. No other substances are used besides Cannabis and health supplements. Experience: I had my first puff at a Phish show when I was 13 in the 90s. I am 35 now. So around 20 years of experience. I've been blessed in my Cannabis journey and able to smoke great weed in three continents.

Waltz Haze

3/9/2019
So this was my first purchase of any BG product. I grabbed an 1/8th at MapleGlen in Rockford, Illinois. From my understanding of the genetics its Dawg Waltz x some Haze. I love Dog Waltz as it basically is two of my favorite varieties of Cannabis, including my favorite Purple Urkle (the other cross is Tres Dog). I wish they would give a little more info on the Haze used though. I am recalling this from memory but the nugs were pretty caked up, the nug structure was good. If I recall correctly they leaned towards the Haze side of things. Same goes for the smell, though there was a pungency and mild berry smell. There was the mild hazy spicy woodsy flavor that we all know and love. Taste matched the flavor, the smoke was smooth. The effects were my favorite, this was an extremely functional high. It seemed to make worry and stress melt away, but I still was remaining focused. I also made sure to bless another medical user with a nug of this so they could sample. Since grabbing this, I have purchased other BG flowers and will continue too. For me, a 5/5 would have to be stellar. Stuff I haven't really seen before that completely knocks me off my socks or is like a perfect rendition of a strain. So a 4/5 is good. I have a 20 year relationship with Cannabis and am extremely educated with it. I tend to lean more towards concentrates but as I am getting older I am returning to the flower more. I don't think I represent the typical Illinois consumer, but the Illinois connoisseur are out there.

Got a gram free from my dispensary here in Chicago and figured I would give it a review. Smoked a bong of it yesterday and just finished the rest of it in a joint. This stuff is pretty high in Cannabinoids, clocking in at around 30% I need to note my tolerance is pretty high, I tend to lean towards concentrates but have been trying to stick and incorporate more flower in my routine which has been going well. Anyways, I have the day off from work and am visiting my parents. Its a snowy, windy and cold day here in Chicago and I figured I'd medicate before doing some computer based errands. My main goal to finish is my taxes, which are not complex because I live a pretty simple life. If they were, I obviously wouldn't be medicating before doing forms. This stuff was pretty old (talking months and months) and that showed. I have no doubt this stuff suffered some terp loss due to sitting on the shelves. Furthermore, I have never been a huge fan of Tangie, especially in flower and this is either a Tangie pheno or backcross? (Note parents are listed as just Tangie) I'd bet this does much better in Concentrates like most Tangie related cultivars. Looks: Neon Green, Darker Fan Leaves, Orange Hairs, Smaller nugs, hard to ascertain original shape due to transport. I'd guess that large size buds have a typical tangie/sativa look to them. I am also assuming that in the right conditions this stuff would explode outside. The harvest date of this was August, so an outdoor grow is possible. Kinda had a cookie like look but with more orange hairs. Dark leaves interwoven with lighter green buds. Overall, it kinda looks like a cross of old school with the neon green and orange and the new school with the darker cookie look. I don't know how else to describe it. On my instagram account, I had to ask for opinions. Smell: Orange! Orange! Orange! This stuff smells strongly of orange. I wouldn't be surprised if smell was a major key during the shifting process for this cut. It does almost have an artificial orange smell. This is a pretty popular smell in the Illinois market right now (lots of orange stuff) and as many know the concentrate market is saturated with tangie/orange related things. I personally am kinda sick of it and am more of an OG/Kush guy but hey this was free. Taste: Disappointing due to muting of flavors. Smooth, Orange, Tangerine So this sample was many months old and I could tell. With the waterpipe, the flavor transferred a bit more then the joint. Which kinda surprised me due to the dry hits on the joint being awesome. And herein lies the problem with tangie related strains (esp flower), the flavors just don't really pop. While smoking the joint, I would get occasional bursts of orange flavor but generally it was just an average yet smooth smoke. I am a big believer in the "entourage effect" (THC+CBD+Terps+unknown elements effects the high, not just THC) so taste is important. Effects: Potent, focused, balanced. clear Tangie tends to lean towards Sativa dominance and this strain appears to follow suit. That being said, the more and more we learn, the more we realize that Sativa v Indica are very broad and not very relevant. Medical Effects: Helped alleviate some depression, was not anxiety provoking. Balanced and focus helped get me out of funk. Basically, I had to put my dog to sleep a few weeks ago and she lived at my parents house. Its still hard at times and coming home reminds me that she is gone. This made it a little easier. I wasn't having PTSD or flashbacks, nor did I notice my insomnia, ADD or depression impacting me. Frankly, I had to let the effects set in first to realize that this strain is medically very good for me. Its very functional but also potent. It seems to have a nice mix of cannabinoids. I might pick this one up again. Frankly, its at a 3.5ish rather then 4. I have a feeling if I got a fresher or better quality sample. I'd think this strain would also be a good work plant and wouldn't be surprised to see it become more popular in crosses down the line. Not that different from its parents. Note: I am a qualifying medical patient whom is registered here in Illinois. Chopped In Chicago
