More about shatter
Two slabs of shatter differ mostly in the starting material and the test results. The residual solvent line on a batch COA matters here, since shatter is solvent extracted and that document is the only real proof. Tested potency commonly lands in the 60 to 90 percent THC range, and a printed terpene figure explains why one slab tastes flat and another does not. Single-gram parchment folds are the usual packaging.
Shatter is the brittle end of the solvent concentrates shelf. Wax and badder start from similar runs but are worked into a softer, scoopable texture. People still pick shatter when they want a slab they can snap into clean portions and store flat without it spreading.
Frequently Asked Questions about shatter
What is shatter?
Shatter is a cannabis concentrate with a hard, translucent, glass-like look. It is made with a solvent, usually butane or propane, that dissolves resin out of the plant and is then purged away under gentle heat and vacuum. The extract is left largely undisturbed as it hardens, and that stillness is what lets it finish as a clear sheet instead of a cloudy one. Fresh shatter snaps when you break it, which is where the name comes from. Potency is typically high, commonly 60 to 90 percent THC. It is dabbed on a rig or nail, used in a concentrate vaporizer, or broken into pieces and added to flower. Because it is firm and stable, shatter stores flat between sheets of parchment paper. Availability depends on your state.
Why does shatter get cloudy or sugary over time?
Clarity is temporary. Shatter is a supersaturated mix, and the cannabinoids in it slowly crystallize, a process called nucleation. Warmth, movement, residual moisture, and leftover plant fats all speed it up, so a clear slab can turn opaque and grainy on the shelf. That change affects looks and handling more than strength. Keeping it cold, flat, and sealed in parchment slows the process and preserves the snap.
Where do I buy shatter near me?
Check Leafly for licensed dispensaries near you that carry shatter, and see whether delivery is offered where you live. Menus usually note the extraction solvent and link the lab results, which are worth reading before you buy.
