Weed harvesting

Harvest is the sequence that turns a finished plant into storable flower: cutting, trimming, drying, and curing. Where home cultivation is legal, growers typically check trichomes with a loupe or pocket scope, cut plants or branches at the stalk, then trim away leaf. Wet trimming happens right after the cut, dry trimming after the plant has hung. Drying takes roughly 7 to 14 days in a dark space, and curing follows in sealed glass jars over several weeks. Tools in this category include pruning shears, curved trimming scissors, drying racks and lines, hanging hooks, glass jars, humidity packs, and trim machines for larger runs. A small fan, a thermometer, and a hygrometer usually round out the setup. The dry and the cure decide more about final aroma and smoothness than any other step in a grow.

Drying too fast locks in chlorophyll and grassy notes, drives off the volatile terpenes that carry aroma, and leaves buds crisp outside and wet inside. A slow dry in the dark, commonly near 60 F and 60 percent humidity, gives moisture time to migrate evenly out of the flower. Curing continues that work in jars: burp them daily at first, then weekly, and watch for any sour or ammonia smell signalling trapped moisture.

Trimming shears, drying racks, jars, and trim machines sell through hydroponics shops, garden centers, and online retailers. Browse harvest supplies on Leafly to compare tools, and check whether licensed dispensaries in your area stock any cultivation accessories.
